What exactly is the difference between the S and the STR? The husband has decided that he really likes my Jag and is considering one for himself..

 

The R's principal attraction is an engine driven supercharger that raises max HP to approx 400. There are other cosmetic, braking and suspension differences.

 

So, an STR is a smidge sexier than an S? Sounds good for a hubby that deserves it!

 

You are correct there. Plus look at it this way, if he has an R he will be smiling ear to ear and he will leave your S alone so you can have yours all to yourself.

What wife wouldn't? I dragged him out shopping for a mini van to replace the old and trusty grocery getter (02 PT Cruiser) and drive home in a very sparkly 05 S-type ("Happy Valentine's Day Kitty") according to him the look on my face during the $hits & giggles test drive was too much. It took 3 days before the shock wore off that little ol' me was the proud & dumbfounded owner of one of the sexiest cars on the planet.

On a narcissitic note, I've raised 5 kids as a military wife-- I gotta grandbaby coming, I'm a full time student --I deserve a Jag!

Nice my father did 20 in the Air Force. He retired back in 95. I failed to follow in his footsteps cause I ended up joining the Marine Corps. I just got out in Nov.

Former active Army, current National Guard here (and former contractor -- is that the trifecta?)...

I'm the only one in my unit that has a Jaguar of any type; maybe the active cats are into S-Types? I do think that the Jaguar marque, in general, impresses military folks more than others. My STR (and my former XJ8) get reactions above and beyond when I drive the other cars to my drill weekends.

Of course, I'm in an infantry unit, so most of them probably assess the value of a car based on how many girls they think it would pull.

I was in infantry also. When I was in last year I only saw maybe 2 other Jaguars on base but they were both X-types. I've just always been one for fast sedans that have that suddle fast look to them and look stylish. Naturally the STR fit that description very well so we were a good fit.

the "R" in STR stands for Really-more-expensive. Tires, brakes, fuel(fuel is same cost, he'll just go thru more of it.)

 

Discovered today when I got my base stickers that my car's former owner was an officer down at Oceana. =D
