Oil around plugs when changing

Default Oil around plugs when changing

I just changed out three of my plugs today. When I took them out, there was a large amount of oil around the plug seat. I'm not going to change the other three until I determine the cause of the oil. Any ideas what is causing it and a fix?

Replace the cam cover gaskets/seals and go on with your life.

No big deal, a fairly common problem with a simple fix. This image, purloined from eBay, shows how the V6 spark plugs sit in a common well. The cam cover has two seals, one around the outer perimeter and an inner seal around the spark plug well. Sounds like your inner seal has failed:



Just curious, were you getting misfire codes for those cylinders?

Yes, I am. I'm actually getting the codes on all cylinders. I had planned on changing the plugs, so when I saw the misfires, I went to change then only to find oil. My guess is that the other side is also bad. Next weekend will be busy. Tuneup, head gaskets, fuel filter and front brakes. Fun fun. Heater valve the following week.

Head gaskets, or just the cam cover gaskets? The latter are not too difficult. Big difference with the head gaskets...

If you really did mean the head gaskets, what findings brought you to that decision?
