I think this just happened to my 09 XF SC. Exact same thing. Dealer quoted $3800 to replace last time I was there. Not sure if my extended warranty covers hoses either. I live between Raleigh and Charlotte and I could really use a hand. I'm taking it to Cary Jaguar after work but I'm worried that it's this problem. Does anyone have "Ricks" info?

My poor xf is leaking coolant. Obviously with that huge pan I can't see exactly where it's coming from. I can smell the coolant but can't see it. I just had it serviced (80k) where it was recommended to change the supercharger coolant hoses due to a small leak. I'm praying that those hoses haven't blown. Dealer quoted 3800 to change the hoses when I was there a couple weeks ago. Said they change all the peripherals while they're in there.

I just had it towed once I got home from work up to Leith Jaguar in Cary. They said they should have a diagnoses for me sometime today hopefully.

About how long does it take to change those hoses and what's the complexity level? Is this something I can do myself with spanners and ratchets or are there specialist tools required? Also, what's the alternative? Do you know anyone in the Sanford/Fayetteville NC area that can fix this on the cheap? I checked with Dias Auto in Pittsboro but he hasn't worked on an XF yet. Thanks!

 

Another option may be Flying Circus English Cars in Durham. Once you have a more complete diagnosis, give them a call and see if they can help you. They specialize in older British cars (I've seen a couple of very nice XKEs there) but perhaps they can work on an XF as well. It's (919) 596-4250. Very nice folks, and they've helped me out over the phone a time or two when I was working on my S-Type and needed to bounce my thoughts off a trained tech before proceeding with my repairs....

 

As far as dealerships are concerned, my experience has been that Flow Jaguar in Greensboro is far superior to Leith Jaguar in Cary regarding all-around technical expertise, willingness to work with me on pricing, and customer appreciation. It takes me twice as long to drive to Greensboro as it does to Cary but I never regret doing business with Flow rather than Leith whenever I have to cave in and go to a dealership. They know I've made the decision to drive over from Raleigh and they never fail to treat me as a special customer....

 

Hey guys here's what I have going on: dealer called and said that now I have a split in the supercharger coolant hose. Unfortunately they also said that the price will still be $3800. I will call the shop in Durham on Monday when they open; does anyone else have any other suggestions?

 

So XF's are doing this too and it's just as big a PITA?

in parts, almost all of it gaskets.Well the XF is all S Type under the skin (just look at a picture with the hood up of an XF and then an S Type). In 2009 Jaguar was still using the same 4.2L and the same SC. So yes it has exactly the same setup as the S Type and I would expect these same problems.

What we don't know yet or at least I can't find out. Does the new 5.0L have the same or a similar bad design?

I sure hope Jag changed this as I would like to upgrade to a 5.0L SC someday!

My factory under SC hose is still holding at 102K miles.

Any chance you can fix it yourself? I have everything to do mine and it was about $300-$400, almost all of it gaskets. The hose is only about $25!

I sure hope you didn't just give your factory SC hose the infamous kiss of death....

 

Nothing a large bonfire, one dead chicken and a naked dance around the car at midnight won't shake off ...

 

I suspect this failure has to do with chafing at least in part otherwise how do we explain the short lived versus long lived examples? A pipe that absolutely clears everything with a hose on each end seems to make more sense to me unless it's that larger end piece that's always the one which fails.

One reason I keep asking folks to post a photo of their failed hoses and where it's failed.

 

As soon as I find a shop that can do the work on the cheap I will get it torn down and get some photos. I'm just hoping that the work already done to it didn't put me in the poor house just to have the inspection done! If it is the case then I will see it tomorrow and shoot the pictures up asap

But nothing is moving so how does the hose get worn?
Both ends of the hose are fixed.

For the cost of the STR I am really surprised Jaguar did not step up to Silicone hoses. I have seen Ford add them to high priced Mustangs before.

I've not even seen enough photos of them to properly guess which is why I seek more photos of failed hoses. I believe on at least one so far it was in the larger diameter portion.

But ... if some part of the hose is laying against something else then vibration could cause wear I suppose?

Or perhaps the material itself breaks down?

Ok so here's the update:
Toby at Flying Circus in Durham NC was totally awesome! Very friendly and their price was impeccable compared to the dealer ($2130 as compared to $3800, this includes a ~$150 tow charge). I asked for the parts that were removed and they gave me a detailed receipt. I will post that with the pictures of the removed parts asap. I paid roughly $1500 for labor which they told me was pretty intensive. Just sucks looking in this little box of removed parts and knowing that cost me 2k let alone the cost of a rental.

I have to call them tomorrow because I picked up after hours and as soon as I got off the lot my Check Engine light came on! Anyone have any clue what that's about?

 

That comes on because the car wants to get paid too.
Just throw a couple rolls of quarters in the gas tank and it'll turn off ...

No, I have no idea. Best have it checked out.

That is still a lot of money for a GD hose replacement but it's not the tech's fault, blame Jaguar.

How many miles on your car and what years is it?

 

If mine and i had to pull up living in hot as hell houston i think i would tap the block where the big hose end is and plug. The remove the hoses from the throttle body and cap. We dont have iceing issues here. One less thing to worry about. But on the lighter side, its always a great time to switch to a smaller blower pulley
