Default Overhead console removal.

I need to replace an interior light bulb in my overhead console.

From what I've seen and read, having first removed the screw in the sunglasses storage area, the front of the console needs to be pulled downwards and then the whole assembly can be pushed forwards to dis-engage it.

Herein lies the problem. Whilst attempting to lower the front edge of the console, it appears very reluctant to move and makes some ominous creaking and cracking noises. So much so, that I've stopped before something breaks.

Please can anybody assure me that this is normal and whether I am going about the task in the correct way?

Thank you.

Upon reflection, this post is no longer required. Perhaps a mod could delete this thread please?
