Default P0171, P0174 + Missfire on 1, 3 and 5

Hi All,

Back here for some help. Car had been good for a couple of years until I decided to use gumout fuel system cleaner instead of lucas/chevron techron (I have used in the past without issue)

I put the gumout fuel system cleaner and filled the tank, drove 2-3 miles and car starting misfiring, idling very rough, check engine light flashing and restricted performance.

Pulled the codes at mechanic shop, here is the list:
Lean bank1 and 2: P0171, P0174

Missfire P0301, P0303 P0305, P1313, P1316.

Could it be due to clogged fuel delivery or air leak? Or both? If it is fuel delivery issue why only on 1 side?

Thoughts? Appreciate your help!

Thanks.

I would stop using any additives at all. Add as much gas as you can and drive it some more.

No point in doing anything with the codes since you just used the additive.

Under not circumstances should the vehicle be operated in conditions that cause the MIL to flash as permanent catalyst damage is occurring.

Find and correct the misfires to prevent further damage.

Thanks All, I went to mechanic again while he was troubleshooting the issue. He did found a broken hose which attaches to Throttle body on one side and the other side goes under plastic black cover. (Coincidence?)

I think I found the part online (matching the picture) but just wanted to confirm with you guys have replaced this?

The Part number is: XR854070
http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/9GMAAO...iB5/s-l500.jpg

Now this is just me looking that thing personally and matching with this picture.

Just to test we put a strong tape over the hole and started the engine, restricted performance went away and car was smoother (not 100% right but much better).

BTW, The flashing MIL only activated under stress not in idle.

Thanks Again!

Hey good troubleshooting!
Not sure about the elbow because I can't tell where it goes?

Since you have the V-6 have you replaced the IMT O Rings? Might be a good time to do them both at the same time.

Yes, I have a couple of spare green IMT O-rings which I got in the past but never used, gave them to mechanic to replace while he is doing this work.

Thanks Again, I am still looking for confirmation on the broken hose elbow.. Anyone?

I have attached a pic for reference for the part (in red circle) which is bad (has cut on it and sucks the air in as RPM goes up).. What is this part number?

As We do this I am also planning to get other things taken care of while intake manifold is off as car has 95K miles.

Spark plugs, IMT O rings, breather hose 90 degree elbow which gus has tutorial on... What else?

For spark plugs, in addition to spark plugs what gaskets I need? Sorry too many questions..

Thank You!

Ok, I did some more research and found this thread:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...um-leak-67710/

Which describes the same problem as I am having. I found both elbows here:

2004 Jaguar S-Type Engine Crankcase Breather Hose V6 3.0 W0133-1826575 (Genuine)

Since I am replacing both elbows, Is it good idea to also replace the hose/tube on which these elbows go on both end?

Update,

New spark plugs installed with upper + lower intake manifold gaskets, breather hose elbows replaced, new valve cover gasket, new IMT O Rings.

Did a test drive, rough idle and flashing CEL on acceleration, checked code, Misfire on one cylinder, mechanic said its bad coil, replace coil, no misfire and cars runs smoooooooth!

Thanks for the help guys!

Good job! Every 6 cylinder will need these repairs eventually so it's good to try and do everything at once. Much cheaper and of course the best thing is you car is working again!!
