Default Parking Brake fault codes and questions.

2003, 122K miles, non R model.

Just bought the car and noticed the Parking Brake Fault on the DIC (along with battery warning icon, though it has a fresh battery and alternator). When I try to activate the parking brake I get a whirring sound from the rear brakes. I took rear passenger wheel off and found there is no end to the cable going to the rear brake itself. Should both sides have cables going t the actuators? Apparently this needs to be rectificied if it's missing the cable. So when checking autoparts stores and even Rock Auto, I am finding only one cable available: RAYBESTOSBC95500Parking Brake Cable. Is this going to be the only one I need, or are there other parts I need to order?

First yes they do need cables and thanks for posting your car details including current mileage.

But you need to find out why the cables have been cut or disconnected? Most likely they had something not release and they started cutting.
There are 2 cables one for each side? How does the other side look?
Can you get another person and see if the cable moves when you apply the EPB?
Can you DIY the repairs?

Go to a Jaguar parts site and do some part searches. I don't know if the cables are still available but they probably are. Again Jaguar uses the last 6 digits of your VIN to determine which parts fit. Many running changes over the years so there are differences. The one you posted looks good but I would check to make sure.

Just a heads up on the PB actuator? It's buried and above the rear sub-frame so a major job to get to and change out.
Plus you did not post where your at and if in a salt area as both cables maybe rusted up by now?
How is the rest of the braking system? Working OK? How are the pads?

After you take care of the broken cable, give your charging system a good checkout. If the alternator has been replaced with a non-OEM unit, it may not communicate properly with the warning system. You end up with the warning symbol illuminated at all times, even though the alternator is charging properly. A big downside is if the alternator subsequently fails, you'll get no indication to warn you.

Late model (2003+) cars have a "smart" charging system. Put a voltmeter on the battery terminals and start the engine. You should see about 14.5 volts for the first few minutes, dropping down around 13.7 after a little while.

You can look up the OEM cable part numbers here:

https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.../brand/jaguar/

It shows different part numbers left and right, which seems odd to me. I'd have thought the system would have been designed with the same part number on both sides, reducing stock on the assembly line. Note how multiple OEM numbers are shown, with this number superseded by that number in turn superseded by yet another number. In most cases, the changes are minor and if you can only find an older number it would typically be fine. eBay can be a good source, as dealers clean out old stock in big lots and resellers put the individual items up for sale.

This thread may be of interest, although you've got a mechanical issue present, not electrical:

Thanks for the insights. I found the right rear parkng cable end is missing, broken or cut? I also need that same side ABS sensor. I'm just having a hard time finding this parking cable as it's no longer a dealer available part.

Unfortunately I also have bigger problems. A mechanic I paid to replace serpentine belt and pulleys broke the bolt for the idler pulley and then refused to fix it without paying him for 3 more hours labor. Therefore my car has been stranded away from me (left at my work parking lot) until I can find someone to fix this issue, which will require pulling the alternator and bracket.
