Default pcm reprogram

Does anybody know what the charge is to have a pcm reprogrammed and is it a dealer service only?

They charge what they like but why do you ask? Almost for sure yours is correct now.

Be afraid. You have the kind where to replace it I think you'll find you need a new one, not a used one.

If you know it's faulty, and you do need to be certain, send it for repair.

I am not 100% sure, but I can't figure out why it just stalls after 15 minutes. Then sit for a few then it starts back up and stalls. I've checked everything the fuel pump is running the whole time with good pressure. It loses injector pulse but has spark when it dies. Ckp is new. I may just tow it to dealer for a diagnostic check.

Doesn't sound like a PCM fault. Blame it last of every other item. You have a few dozen to rule out first I suspect.

E.g. What do fuel trims do?

Er... they definitely should not be. They're the central things the computer is worrying about keeping under control!

It's starting to sound like you don't understand that you have a computer with an engine attached. The computer has to trust its sensors and actuators to control that engine as it won't run itself.

The weak points are all the things it relies on. Without codes, fuel trims are often critical to understanding what is wrong. Lots of info on modern (petrol) engines all over this site and the net - they all work along the same lines, mandated by your laws.

Hard to say because if the fuel trims are all over the place I would expect the car to throw some codes.

Like maybe the old standby's p0171 AND p0174.

Can you post what the fuel trims are doing? Numbers and such.

Has the car been worked on lately?

One thing relied on is that the timing is OK i.e. that the tensioners etc are not failing / failed / jumped a tooth / etc....

Everything with the engine is new i.e. tensioners and they are the updated ones the thing runs great then just dies actually like its out of fuel but its not and it has good pressure. And it starts after key off for about 2 maybe 3 minutes then it stalls again, the strangest thing ive ever seen

just a quick run down i just got the car it was blown up and had a new engine installed in it but the "mechanic" that installed the engine messed it all up so it never ran. it was out of time it was backfiring through the manifold pop off valve so i checked and retimed the thing with all the right tools and to the letter of the JTIS. Come to find out i had to remove the engine because he just through the flexplate on any old way which led to it being way out of time. Fixed that problem and alas it started and ran but only for 15 minutes and that is now the next issue im trying to work through, it has all new plugs, coils ckp sensor. The engine was a complete rebuilt engine. Im not sure that he may have disconnected the pcm while still connected to the battery.

Could be anything, then, but even so I'd be using trims.

That said, I would have walked away from a car with these problems.

Any chance you have clogged cats? Engine blowing up covers a lot of ground.

Long shot but you seem to be checking everything else?

One last thing when it dies it still has spark and no injector pulse but it does have power to the injectors. Changed the ckp sensor just in case the one i had was bad but no change.

Tricky as you've left out your location, not even which country you're in!
