Default performance restricted, jerky throttle response, 2005 s-type V6

My wife's car was occasionally going into limp mode and regularly had a jerky response whenever I accelerated hard. The yellow engine light was constantly on along with the "restricted performance" message. I was told by a local Jaguar mechanic that the throttle body needed replacing.

I just replaced the throttle body myself. I won't know if the limp mode issue is resolved until it doesn't happen for a year.

The problem is, I still get a jerky response when I accelerate hard. It may be a little less than before, not sure, but it is still there. The yellow engine light is still constantly on as is the "restricted performance" message.

Any ideas about what is causing this or other direction is greatly appreciated.

I did look at other posts. It is fairly difficult to filter through them all.

Yes. Stop throwing parts at it and stop following what somebody says.

Get the codes then erase them and check what comes back. You must have some hard symptoms or you will never fix it.

It sounds like miss-fires and you probably need to replace the coils and plugs unless they have already been done? But before you do anything more get the codes and post back here.

Yes Biff get the codes read. Really easy to run to an Auto Zone, Pep Boys etc.... They will read codes for free!

You happen to be in luck. The 2005, 3.0 is very well documented here.

As I mentioned, a Jaguar mechanic told me the throttle body needed replacement. He had read the codes. Not coincidentally, he also said it needed coils. I guess I mixed up which fix solved which problem.

I am guessing the limp mode problem has probably been fixed with the throttle body replacement and that new coils will fix the jerky throttle problem.

The mention of the coil problem in this thread by clubairth1 helped me connect the dots. I think. Thanks for that.

And thanks to joycesjag for the Auto Zone, Pep Boys referral.
