Default Power Steering Pump Question

Started just today to hear a noise near the bottom of the left front tire and more underneath the car. Just a whiny type of sound with a slight sound of clicking. If I turn the wheel it goes away and when I stop turning it comes back. It is very slight and not there all the time. If I increase rpm to about 1200- it goes away. Does this sound like the pump is trying to tell me to replace or could a change in fluid be an answer?

There is not trouble steering and it was only by accident that i heard it. How long before these things are supposed to give out and does someone have detailed instructions on replacement? It is a difficult install?

Thanks

In my experience if the PS pump was low on fluid or going bad the noise would get louder when you turn the wheel. Have you checked for proper fluid levels in the PS pump?

Sits right at the max line as it always has. About 6000 miles ago I put in the Jag additive that was part of a TSB about noise and it stopped that within 2 days. Other than that - no change. (I had removed the amount that was equivalent to the amount of the additive). Amount of fluid has not changed.

Very little pump or rack problems posted. I would live with it unless it gets loud.

Don't forget the Lincoln LS parts will work. The uprated ZF rack was added to both the LS and the S Type for 2003 and up. One of the few things the LS got with the 2003 update.
