Default Pulling codes

I have a 2005 3L S-Type. It has about 56,000 miles on it.

Tonight when driving home, the check engine icon lit and stayed lit. I realize that I need to get to a dealer but the closest is 100 miles away and open only M-F. Can I take the car to someplace like Autozone and have them pull the code for me. I need to decide whether to drive to the dealer or have it transported and the urgency.

Thanks.

Eric

Why not just pick up a scanner to keep in your glove box? I got mine at PepBoys.

I went to Autozone and they pulled the codes although the program didn't have the specific Jaguar translation. The codes were:

P0300
P0301
P0303
P0305
P1111
P1316

My interpretation is that it may need a tune-up. Just before I noted the check engine light, I had really done a hard acceleration in order to pass a moving vehicle. Other than the nagging light, do I have anything to worrry about before I can get to the dealer?

Toller, the P0300 code is stating that you are having random misfires. P0301, P0303, and P0305 is stating that you are having misfires on cylinders 1, 3, and 5 respectively. This would lead me to believe that you have a wiring issue, not so much a spark plug/coil issue. Code P1111 is just saying that all the OBD checks have been completed since the last resetting of the computer. P1316 is stating that you are getting excessive emissions due to misfires.

I would recommend not driving the car too much to prevent any damage to the catalytic converter. Since you have misfires with multiple cylinders, you need to look a bit further up stream to find a common problem. The odds of 3 cylinders have problems at the same time is highly unlikely. Unless you have been under the hood tearing stuff apart, it isn't probable.

EZ lube spilled oil and it seeped into the ignition coil cover causing 3 cylinders to misfire on my Jag. Did you recently have an oil change?

I'd take your ignition coil cover gasket off and take a look to make sure that no foreign fluids have made their way in.

Nope. No oil changes recently. It's been 5K miles since the last one.

I'm of the opinion that when I stepped really hard on the accelerator, the misfires occurred.

Sounds to me like your losing fuel pressure when your trying to accelerate hard.. That would explain the multiple misfires in 3 different cylinders.. Eric

(how many frigin' Eric's do we have on the forums? I've already seen 5..)

Also you may want to check out the cats because if one is clogged up I've heard of this happening.. and maybe also check the throttle position sensor. When was the last time you replaced your fuel filter? If its happening with 3 cylinders my guess is its probably not plug/coil related (but it could be)..

This is a fairly baffling problem. If it is generalized (fuel filter), then why are the other cylinders not reporting the same problem. If is is localized (coils), then how did 3 of 6 cylinders all report the same problem at once.

The svs advisor said it should be OK to drive it to them as long as I contain my urges. There isn't any roughness or misfiring of the engine. I'll drive there and leave it for them to find the problem. I'm going to have to have some other things done anyway. My wife is buying the voice-module for my birthday. Nice wife.

Well....

Took the car in to the shop yesterday. Got it back today. They replaced the "IMT O-Rings".

The parts are 6 gasket-inlet MA and 2 seals.
