Default Question regarding Alpine Non-Nav Audio in 03 STR

Hi guys, here's one regarding the factory alpine audio system in my 03 str, non-navigation.

How many speakers does this system have?

The two speakers in the parcel shelf are the 'subwoofers' correct? These are 6" subs, correct?

Are they driven by the head unit directly, or is there an external amp that drives them?

My parcel-shelf subs are blown, and in need of replacement. Wondering if I can replace them with some aftermarket units, and have the factory amp and/or head unit drive them.

Any suggestions on this sub replacement and what replacements some of you may have used?

I too have gone through blown speakers.
My solution that's worked for me include:
Keep the amp as it is.
Go to the "next level" of Alpines for every speaker not wired to the Sub output.
I've "updated" the provided subs to the latest updated Alpine subs.

I think the sound is crisp, clear and "natural" and without risk of distortion or "blowing".

I listen to everything from baroque to modern classical, early jazz, late jazz, all ages of rock, and most things "alternative".
FWIW

Can you post what models of speaker you used? I would like to upgrade my 2005 STR with NAV but most of the guys upgraded to things I don't want like a separate box in the trunk for Subs. I want better quality speakers that fit the factory positions.

Had it done at "The Audio Shop" Sorry I don't recall the specific models....
We used Alpine Type R component speakers and 2 way speakers.
And we replaced the subwoofer to Type R as well.
See Alpine Electronics of America, Inc.

Its small... i think 6.5 inches. Yes, the alpine equipment is outstanding and IMHO worth the money. I can't imagine swapping it out for an inferior product.

I am a bit of an audiophile: MacIntosh amps and B&W professional speakers in the house and the vinyl only gets played on the Brinkman...
