4.0 is always pre-2002.5MY, which starts at (last 6 of) VIN M45255.

All directions - worldwide, all cars - are as if seated in cabin facing front.

Please downlaod the FREE files in the stickies such as JTIS and Vehicle Specs as all these are in them.

Well looks like i got the correct cylinder,

my dad put a voltmeter across the coil and the resistance was 5000 ohm ( please dont take my terminology as gospel as im not great with electrics, but my dad is. but something like that) and from what i can gather a coil should be between 10,000 and 11,000 to run correctly.

a coulpe of things i have had both banks rocker gasket replaced but i found a little oil around the spark plug thread, not on the elctrode but at the top of the thread, there was no oil up the coiul boot, so is this normal?

also the coil i have just freshly installed is a complete different make to any other coil pack in my vehicle, will this be ok?

Just remember that coils operate at high voltages and checking them with a regular DVOM does not. Many bad coils will measure fine with a hand held meter. Ford started making their dealers buy COP stress testers because it was hard to determine if coils were mis-firing under load.

You can use different brands. I think Visteon was the OEM for the coils.

If you find oil the spark plug well gaskets are leaking or seeping a bit. To get to them the cam covers have to come off. If you DIY you could remove the covers. Clean all the oil off the spark plug well gaskets and apply a thin amount of Silicone to both sides of the doughnut. Then reinstall everything.

If you still have any factory coils at this late date I would be changing them while I had the motor apart!!
