Though what I write likely deserves its own thread, I thought it appropriate for those who popped on hi-flow cats and modded air intake tube... hi-flow cats may neccessitate O2 sensor extenders. This helped "UnderPressure" defeat the CEL immediately following his hi-flow cat install. They are screwed into the downstream O2 bungs then the O2 sensors are screwed into it, distancing O2 sensor from exhaust stream, a means to tricking the ECU into believing there are efficient (stock) cats in the exhaust stream. Hi-flow cats are similar to no-cats at all, leaving the upstream and downstream O2 sensors to be essentially connected, without differing exhaust gases. My cat ran almost a year without the CEL w/restricted performance till the CEL w/RP showed up. Ordered a pair today, as this is what Chris of Mina Galleries suggested and places on his customers cat-modded Jags and Range Rovers. They'll be popped on in hopes of rectifying a persistant CEL without an exhaust and vaccume leak.

Oh, don't worry about HP gains, the Mafioso air intake tube does plenty.

Go for it! Have fun. Really looking forward to your results. I'm going to do a run once the bugs are wringed out of the STR.

installed one on a car locally that had a brand new mina filter kit on it. It fit okay, but the size of the filter combined with the length of the mina tube combined was a little longer than ideal. It installed fine but took two goes to correct the fit.

The owner of the car will definately be watching for jagv8's dyno as he things there is a potential advantage to using a filter with more surface area than the stock box allows.

With that being said.... 2 left and then they're gone.

I agree with larger filter area......

I tried my new intake with a mesh trumpet sock over, a MC12 ITG Power Sock with varying tube lengths and distances from intake mouth, both were down on power combined to the Mina Filter. I also tried the Mina filter without heatshield and cold air feed which caused heat sock at low RPM around town, but made improvement at the last 6000rpm where more than likely air voulme came into play at WOT.

The best butt dyno set up was Mina intake, heatshield, remove stock cold air intake pipe to allow much more cold air into the whole engine bay. Supplying the big Mina filter with lot's of air, seems to give snappy throttle response, linear power uptake and curve and never short of air at WOT as the airbox as standard seems to be weak there even with the flap mod.

As soon as i have booked and completed the dyno run will post results.

Default Dyno Results.....

Guys, need your help......

Link to results slip below, nowhere near what was expected need help if am reading wrong or need to try a different dyno.

Webshots Rides offers thousands of the best car wallpapers.

Dyno Dynamcs aka ( Heartbreaker ) Rolling Road

330lb ft Torque @ flywheel

260.5 hp @ flywheel

If i take 20% loss off that for drag, tansmission etc only just over 200RWHP........

The RR tech took her for a spin and said great drive really good low down torque and feels about rightfor a 300RWHP car..... but figures do not agree..!

The torque is about right but a little low, but the hp is nowhere near close!

Was dyno run performed with engine warmed up but not hot, DSC off, in fourth gear? If yes, then DSC intermittently kicked in. This car cannot be accurately dynoed unless DSC is completely disabled. Otherwise your STR is likely making 375+ rwhp or 440+ chp.

The engine was hot, dynoed in4th gear with DSC off, Therefore If your logic is correct why such a linear curve on the graphs if DSC set in would that not blip/spike the graph..?

Cheers

Are there any left Qwiketz?

I've been digging through the parts catalog, and guess what?

The factory intake is identical for the S-Type R and the Supercharged X350!

X350 Supercharged

S-Type R

Yes the picture is wrong for the STR, but the part numbers are the same and I can tell you my XJR has an identical intake to what was shown by Michael Star in the Mafioso thread.

So this little beauty should also be interesting for XJR & Super V8 owners.

BUT, I'm a little concerned about clearance of the radiator tank, here is a pic of my XJR;

The clearance looks to be the same as the STR's, well at least in the pics i've seen here on the forum.

If there are any left please let me know by PM. Cheers!

One last question, I've seen a lot of STR's with black coloured intake tubes (the ones that run over the top of the blower, in between the charge coolers) the XJR's (well mine at least) has a natural aluminium intake, have the STR ones been painted? or are they like that from the factory? Or are they plastic maybe? Like the pics shown HERE???

Your intake looks identical to that of an STR. qwiketz's intake should work.

wow, that looks like it should work which is awesome because xjr's are notorious for the intake tract failing according to my mechanic. It'd be a nice hi po option since the oem one is $170. $30 more for more hp!

edit... I do have 2 or 3 more. I'll have to check when I get home tonight.

Very good!

I'm positive that it'll fit, and I reckon there are at least a dozen XJR owners in the UK who will be interested. Once those two go would you make another batch?

I guess I could make more if there was the demand. I have the s type r's pretty much covered at this point. We'll have to see how it works out on yours and go from there!
