Default Rear brake pads on 2003 S type.

Found great pieces on here about the replacement of brake pads on the rear but although some mention disconnecting the battery I have found it hard to determine whether you leave the battery disconnected throughout the pads fitting and then reconnect OR just disconnect after disabling the EPB (ignition method) and then reconnect before continuing with the pad removal and replacement.

Can anyone give me clarity before I start the job.

Thanks

Kris.

The idea is to make sure the EPB is in its fully released position during the work (hold the paddle down as you switch off and remove the key).

In theory that ought to be enough but there's a slight risk that something about the work could make it apply. That would be a potentially very dangerous situation.

So, some like to disconnect the battery. (No power = can't apply.)

After the work you'd first pump the brakes to snug up the caliper to the new pads, and then finally reconnect the battery and go through the EPB recalibrate.

No need to disconnect the battery at all. There's far greater probability of other things going wrong- asteroids, vampires, etc.
