Default Rear Brake Pads

Hi All, I have just replaced the rear brake pads on my 2004 S type 3 Ltr V6 Petrol Auto. The pads were listed on the MOT as worn. My reason for posting is to say that I used a cheapo £14 HILKA Caliper Rewind tool to do the job. Both calipers wound in using the Right-hand thread tool. I drained some fluid from the master cylinder tank before winding back the pistons (used a garage syringe) and topped up the fluid when done. This was my first job on electronic hand-brake wind-in calipers as I am more used to working on older cars. This was a DIY in the driveway job and took about 4 hours total. What ho- Plumbo

Well done, think I might have to do similar to mine. I keep hearing a clunk from the rear when I pull away after firm braking. Think my pads may be sticking, or calliper. I have one of those winding tools too; a very useful piece of kit!

Possible that the anti-rattle inserts are missing and you have the shorter pads that need them. The longer pads fit straight into the carriers but they do wear the carrier surface over time or at least my Redstuff did. Another good reason for dropping them in the round filing cabinet

Thanks. That’s a good possible cause, but my thunk doesn’t sound like that. It sounds like when your handbrake has stuck on and suddenly releases when you drive forward. However, I will check what you suggest anyway while I am there.

Other things to check are the diff mounts and the driveshaft donut joint. There is a diff mount kit for the earlier car, so it is a known possible problem.

The donut is ok but I wonder if you might have put your finger on it with the diff mount. It sounds and feels like a muffled thunk, not metal on metal. I will defo look at the diff mounts.
