Rear drive ratio changed, how to tell that the ECU
Some time ago, I scrapped a 3.0 litre manual. This one had a diff ratio of 3.07. Meanwhile I am building a limted slip diff based on that. Currently I am driving an other 3.0 litre with manual transmission too. As I found out during overhauling of the other car diff, the actual driven car has a ratio of 3.31. For me, as an BMW Driver, I was not aware chaning gear ratio has any impact on the controls at all, because the speed pickup on a BMW is normally at the drive shafts of the wheels. But here on the Jaguars, it is on gear box.
This means the speedometer will show false speed readings and I heard even the ABS is confused, because wheel speed will be different from gearbox speed. Do somebody know how i can reprogramm the relevan ECU to match the new read end ratio?
I could convert the actual rear end to limited slip, but the car must be kept running. And I prefer to have the longer read end anyway. Therefore adapting ECU is necessary.
(If somebody is interested, how i convert the diff, i can create a thread for that.)
