The RECM in my 2000 S-type has failed and so I will need to buy a secondhand one. However the ones I have found for sale on Ebay etc seem to have different part numbers but are still listed as all fitting my car. The part number in my car is YW4T-13B524-BA, but some part numbers of those RECM for sale as fitting include 6R83-13B524-AB, 4R83-13B524-AB, XW4T-13B524-BC etc. Are all of these different S-type RECM's interchangeable despite the different part numbers?

 

For a start there was a part number change at VIN L68492. So any from cars after that may not work in your 2000 car?

I think the part numbers do have to match.

You are suposed to use the Jaguar portable diagnostic unit to determine the part number suffix.
I think this info may also be on the VCATS lable on the right hand side of the trunk bulk head.
From what I understand the suffix should be the same on both the unit and the lable or it may not work in your car.

But I may be wrong. Others should know more.

Thanks MELLOW for you suggestion, I found the VCAT where you said. My cars VIN was before VIN L68492. Fortunately I have also found RECM’s with the same part number as mine on the Internet, so I have been able to buy one which I am confident will fit. However I did not receive any responses which were able to resolve the mystery whether RECM’s with part numbers different from mine but advertised as fitting all S-Types from 1999 to 2007 would actually fit my car.

Regarding the fitting ranges quoted for various S-type components it is often just stated that they fit all as it is just too dificult to fully list all the variations.
The best place to look up part numbers is the official Jaguar on-line parts catalogue, using your vin number and other details. (Link below.)
Once you have the correct part number from this web site for your car then use google to find the part that fits your car.
