STR Drinking Oil
Hi, I recently bought a 2002 R and topped it up with the oil recommend from Halfords. Petronas-syntium-3000-fr-5w-30-oil. IIt has drank the whole 5 litre tub in just 3 months of daily use. It will when cold, and I've only noticed it when the air is cold, pump out when accelerating hard a ploom of white smoke. I'm not sure if it's just the air or the car, I'll check the water tomorow and the oil seems clean. . I'm at a bit of a loss... I had it cleaned off underneath and ran it for an hour on a ramp and not a drop leaked. Can anyone help please?
You may well find that the oil is seeping through the valve stems into the combustion chambers when the engine is off.
When you first start up this will be burnt off quite quickly with white/light grey smoke.
You may well need new valve spring seat seals. To change these the heads need to come off!
The other possibility is the piston rings, but I think you would probably also get smoke when the engine is wormed up as well.
But I may be wrong?
