Default safe to use LUCAS oil stabilizer in STR?

Hey guys im due for an oil change after my last oil change 6k miles ago. I was considering adding LUCAS Synthetic OIl to mix in with my regular synthetic oil. Wanted to get some suggestions or advice on using in in our STR. My STR has about 94k on it at present.

thanx.

Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer : Lucas Oil

I would just use what Jaguar recommend. I would not add that stuff and I would not change oil so often. When you start after a change it causes wear till the new oil pumps up so why do more than necessary.

If the Lucas ingredients really improved oil ... wouldn't oil companies include those ingredients in their premium products?

Automotive oil is a very competitive business .. if a company can get an edge they would take it.

Hey jagv8 thanks for your suggestion. But I thought 6k miles is good enough time to due a oil change. What interval do you change your synthetic oil out in miles preferably? I had used Lucas oil many times in other cars with great results. Since my Str is cOnsuming oil more than normal I'm willing to take the risk and add a qt of the Lucas to the new oil and Post my opinion about the results. Lucas oil stabilizer does what it states about helPing to reduce oil consumption and boosting oil Pressure etc... Let's c what happens once I get in the STR; fingers crossed.

That's because it thickens the oil. The problem is that you do not know to what particular viscosity. Far better to just change oil grades. At least that way you know what grade you are running.

There is at least one case where a Lucas distributor paid to replace a power steering pump without any more fuss than sending in the bill for parts and labour. Could it be that they recognised that thickening the power steering fluid with the Lucas power steering additive was not really a good idea and that reports of the results would not be good for business?

Instead of putting Lucas in it, put in a good good oil. I prefer Amsoil because I pay their fee and get 20-25 percent off and they have a huge selection.

There are other high quality oils out there as well. I'm not going to list them all, but you can google them.

I think the Lucas oil stabilizer is actually just some of the additive packages that they put into more premium oils (like Mobil 1 High mileage etc.) So my take on this is that using a bit will help out the lubricity and longevity of the oil and will be the same as using oils with these additive packages already built in. My advice is to go ahead and use it,but only just a bit of it. I use a quarter of a quart in my str and it seems happy with it.

jag79, A little Lucus Stabilizer on my pancakes instead of maple syrup improves my morning constitution. LOL, just kidding bro. IMO, follow aCapiz advice...half qt. and see if she burns less oil.

Schedule says 10K miles so I change oil at 10K. Never had an engine die due to oil issues. If anything, engines are getting better so I don't expect to, either.

The question was, is it safe?
Absolutely.
And nobody here has suggested otherwise.
If you are a believer, then use it.
I am a believer in royal purple or red line oil products in all of my cars. All of the arguments above could be made about them as well. But I'm a believer.

Use it.

Thanks guys for all your suggestions. A few months back I added half a qt to top off the oil and since then I noticed a bit of burst in power; guessn the increase in oil Pressure, but over all the Str was some what smoother and I did nOtice less smoke comng out during morning start ups. For now I'll go with a full qt mix in with the fresh motor oil and I'll give my opinion on it once I driven with it for the first 100 miles or so.

But c'mon man; anecdotal 'evidence' like that is ALWAYS used to try to scare people into being sheeple. It is not scientific in any way, shape of form. And to your example; in fact it is much more likely that Lucas paid the repair bill because, as we all know, some personalities are going to find satisfaction in getting somebody else to pay their bill, and won't be happy 'til they get it. And sometimes it's just easier to be done with them. In my business, I very often capitulate on an issue, just to make it go away. Because it means nothing: just like your anecdote.

Have you done any research on the Lucas Motor Oils? (because that's what the OP asked about, not about an additive) I see no reason to think their viscosity advertised cannot be trusted, just like any other oil manufacturer's? I also see no reason to mistrust their data-sheets' assertion that the base stocks used by Lucas are of MUCH higher grade than anything you can buy on the shelf at Walmart; like Mobil1 or Castrol. Boutique oils, like Lucas, Royal Purple, RedLine, etc, can afford to be higher quality, because people like me are willing to pay more for them.

For the record, I've never used Lucas products, except their engine assembly lube which I swear by. But I use Royal Purple and RedLine products religiously, and I am accustomed to these same arguments and commentary about those products as well. But as an engine builder and racer, I feel qualified to say that I find the larger oil manufacturer's products (such as Mobile 1 and Castrol) to be of very high quality, but in my own motors, I only trust these higher-quality "Boutique" oils.

so.... am I banned now? :-)
