Default Recall a Recall?????

A few weeks ago I started a thread about my wifes car leaking gas like a sive from the drivers side of the gas tank, and thanks to all the help I got here I found the culprit. A round cap over the fuel pump assemble had a bad retaining ring.

This is where my problem just keeps getting better.

I ordered the replacement part according using my VIN to asure the correct part and of course....it was the wrong part.

This apparently is because it shows that my car had a recall done on it a few years back to correct this problem, which should have included replacing the gas tank (to which the new part would fit).

However I still have the old gas tank to which they no longer make parts for.

According to the service rep. I am no longer elgible for the recall because it was already done by the original owner back in 2007.

WHAT DO I DO NOW????

I would call Jaguar Corporate in New Jersey and ask to speak with the Vice President of Parts and Service. Earlier this year (January/February timeframe), that position was held by Campbell McArthur. I assume it still is. This advice, of course, assumes that you are in the U.S. as well....

I think the idea is that the recall apparently was not done correctly, in which case really it should be put right. How Jaguar Corporate sort it out with a dealer etc is a matter for them but frankly sort it out they should.

Imagine someone's liability if the car had caught fire/exploded/etc! Or still does, with this issue unresolved....
