Default Refinishing my Vulcan 18"s

Wanted to get some opinions, I have some curb rash on my rear wheels and am going to get them refinished. I figured I would do all 4 seeing as there are some imperfections on the fronts as well. I was really leaning towards a gunmetal finish, but I keep going back to a bright, silver metallic. I keep going back and forth, and once I make a descision theres no going back.

Does anyone have any suggestions or pictures that can assist in my dillemma??!!

PS Black STR

Thanks -JG

I'm refinishing my zues 18's now as well.

I don't like gunmetal or black colored stock rims, or anything that stands out with the appearance of painted original wheels.

With that said, i went with an original-looking bright oem silver wheel paint.

My local würth dealer carries very high quality wheel paint in a rattle can, if you google for 'würth german wheel paint' you ll find it. I havent sprayed it yet, so not sure how similar it is to stock wheel color, but so long as it comes out looking bright and original, im happy.

Leave the gunmetal for the 'custom 19" staggered teaser' thread...

i will stick with original silver color if you have stock wheels. aftermarket wheels with gunmetal or black with polished lips will look tight on your black STR just my 2 cents

I wasn't necessarily saying I wanted to go "pimped" out black, I was thinking more along the lines of a dark grey/silver metallic, in my eyes I call that gunmetal. That color came stock on my Infiniti FX45 and it looked great. Shes going in on Monday so I need to make a decision quick. The more I look at my car, and wheels, the more I think I am going to tell him to do a bright silver metallic. I kinda just wanted a change...

This is my attempt at a dark gunmetal paint and I did the brake calipers in Red - got the brembo transfers etc

Its all a matter of what you like

Micahel, nice looking ride man. I was contemplating something along the lines of what LSPC posted above, the "BMW black chrome". A very light gunmetal. I think I am now swaying back towards a bright silver metallic. That color makes them really "pop" on a black vehicle. Just had my front bumper cover re-sprayed, so this wheel project will have to be put on hold for a couple weeks. Definately getting them done though. LSPC, you dont like the "black chrome"?

I used Rust-Oleum high performance WHEEL paint in an 11oz spray can at my local AutoZone. Looks really great and is near match to original on my 04 STR Vulcan wheels. A plus, in my opinion, is that it's a bit more glittery without being pimp like.
I paid 5.99 but have seen it on sale. Check it out.

Hi Joe,
Its not that i dont like them, but as you say i think they pop/stand out more against a black car in the silver. The black chrome sometimes look a bit grubby even when the wheels have been cleaned, almost like a fine layer of brake dust is on them personally i'd go bright silver

Joe,

My rims are quite "heavy" and I always felt that the silver was too dominant. I also wanted to feature the brake calipers which are quite good looking. However I reckoned it was just too much silver in my own case between the weels and the brakes. I would suggust you give some thought to the brake calipers which in my case had sffered a little wear and tear over the years. You are obviously more careful than me as I feel the wheels need a repaint every 2-3 years to keep them fresh so if I would change the colour if I was not entirely happy. I will probably change the colour anyway just for a bit of variety!! Anyway have fun !!!

Do you want to completely refinish the wheels or try and touch up the curb rash? It can be done with the tires on the rim but rims off the car.
