Default Remote Key issue.

Hi!
So I bought a used 2003 s-type Jaguar from a Car Dealer on Friday, in my excitement I forgot to question why the Key Remote did not lock/unlock the car wen the buttons were pushed. I've tried a few things from a few sites but nothing has worked.
That is my issue, and the question is: Do I have to make a few hour trip to the nearest Jaguar Dealer to have them reset/reprogram the key?

Things have done:
Replaces the batteries.
Taken apart and made sure it was clean (contacts, buttons, cleaned it all).
Went to Auto-zone and tested the remote to make sure it is sending a signal (and it is).

Is there a way I can reprogram the key?

Thanks for any info.

In a nut shell NO.

When you had the FOB apart did you look at the rubber nubs on the backside of the thumb controls? Mine have worn down so much on one FOB it doesn't make good enough contact to the digital part.

The nubs did look a little warn down.
I'll take it apart again and push the contact buttons with a pencil eraser and see if anything happens.

Would any of the fuses be a problem? I found out my cig lighters didn't work yesterday, replaced them and all is good. Made me wonder if a fuse could be my problem.
(eraser/pushing the contacts didn't lock/unlock car)

Can you take it back to the dealer you bought it from? Could be worth a shot.

Otherwise it can get pricey if you need to pay for programming

I'm with Norri, take it back.

I just had the programing done since our's only came with one key & I wanted a spare. $102.50 for one hour labor. I walked around while I was waiting and saw they moved the car and parked it out behind the shop area. It sat there for about a half hour before they pulled it in. They charge an hour labor but I bet it actually took 10 minutes or less. They did wash it but it wasn't really dirty. Oh well..price of owning a Jag.

BTW, I got a brand new remote on ebay for about 40 bucks. The cut key from Jag was 123.00 wholesale. So I have around $265 in the spare key with remote.

I didn't buy it from a Jag Dealer. Bought it from a sub-dealer that is part of a larger Used Car Dealership in my area. Hopefully I can call them this weekend, been a busy week and have not had the time to call them while at work to ask if they can reset it or not.

I assumed it wasn't a Jag dealer, but you should still go back and have a go at them, it's worth a try and may save you a pile of $$$.

Yea it wasn't a Jag Dealer, just a used car lot (had a little bit of everything).
