Steering getting stiff in spots

In my 05 the steering feels stiff and not really difficult but resistance is felt. Is it the steering rack? Is it fine for my wife to drive till I can get it fixed? Anyone else have this happen? Any input will be appreciated.

I don't recall hearing this (and not often, for sure). I hope you've at least checked the fluid level

Fluid is good. Is the part compatible with lincoln?
