Default Right Front steering rack movement?

I took my wifes 2004 S-Type Jaguar 3.00L V6 Right hand drive as we live in New Zealand for a Warrant of Fitness check.
The car was failed on what the mechanic thought was excessive play in the Right Front inner Tie Rod, I took the car to have a replacement Inner Tie Rod fixed, when the boot was unfastened to allow the tie rod inner to be replaced the mechanic found the existing Inner Rod was still in good working order.

Any thoughts on what maybe causing this play would be appreciated?

If you want people to find and assist with your question !
You really need to start your own thread with your questions ,
I think you need to return to your wof inspector with the car and have him show you the worn component he is talking about , in my experiance so many WOF inspectors have differant ideas of what to name components causing mutch confusion !

In that case, clean it, paint it and take it back.

Welcome to the forum Jagman56,

I've moved your question from the end of a thread about Xenon headlights to a new thread of your own.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some information about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see.
