UH Yeah....

That is another adventure in STR ownership!! ;-)

The STRs with the Brembo's use the following

365mm Front
330mm Rear

Most of us have used Brake Performance rotors drilled and slotted rotors work really well and have a lifetime warranty!!

Premium Dimpled and Slotted Brake Rotors

Check out these guys too

For those looking for something different. I did get a price from them of $250 for just a pair of STR front rotors. Drilling/slotting/coloring is extra.

I am going to try them out here soon

The primary reason there's slotted/cross drilled rotors on my 03 STR is due to the front rotors being too large to fit on a standard lathe. The STR has monstrous front rotors.

I always get these for my STR More Information for CENTRIC 12020018

same identical info that is on the brake performance site, they are however regular discs non slotted etc. They also carry the Akebono pads that work well. discs are $77 per unit

Well that is new one to me!!

I have had my 2005 STR front rotors cut without any problems.

If this is your first time ordering parts for an STR you learned a very good lesson.

The STR is a rare car. Most part sellers have no clue that they even exist. ALWAYS check before ordering. I have found there is very little for just the STR.

I think all of us STR guys have been bitten by that problem at least once! I know I have.

Wonderful info, gone straight into my STR files!

What, if any, is the difference between Akebono ceramic pads and those offered by brakeperformance.com?

Akebono pads are by far the best I have ever used. Might try amazon and might find them cheaper there; I have in the Past.

Another vote for Akebono. 50K miles and still going strong and no dust. Should have been factory!

If i recall the standard pads that come with their rotors are semi metallic might have changed since the last time i looked there though

Apparently, the shop I used didn't have an updated lathe to handle the larger rotors these days.

I never liked the idea of cutting rotors, if they are warped just replace them. I know its the standard practice to "turn out" rotors and I myself used to work as a grease monkey (many years ago) We would always turn rotors as part of a full brake job, ususally finishing them off with a light grinding of the face to give them a little tooth.

IMHO, with the low cost of the dimpled slotted rotors and the added benefits in stopping, cooling power plus the lifetime warranty against warping / cracking they offer, I dont see any reason not to just upgrade.

I think the real value of the the dimpled slotted rotors tends to get lost and overshadowed by the cool factor.

Thanks guys, one last question...

I see that dimpled, slotted rotors are highly recommended, but I also see that plain rotors are also available for about $50 less, and the Jag's rotors are also plain.

I understand that dimples and slots help to remove heat, dust and water from the rotors, but it seems as though there is a reduction in contact surface area because of these dimples/slots, maybe 2, 3, 4 or even 5%.

My question: If I just use the Jag for day-to-day driving, i.e. don't take it to the track, heat buildup is not really a problem. If I use Akebono ceramic pads, dust is not a problem. Can't see water being a problem either. So, am I not better off using plain rotors and getting (slightly) better braking from the greater surface area?

Robin, the stock (plain) rotors provide more than enough whoa power for average daily driving. Dimpled/slotted/cross drilled are the standard for the track as a means of preventing over heating of the pads. Go for the plain rotors plus Achebono ceramic pads. They provide more whoa power and don't dust/stain the wheels.

+1 on what Seth commented above on the plain rotors with the Akebono pads.

You definittely get some added noise and vibration with the slotted / dimpled rotors. Nothing major but its definitely there!

The Akebono's dust very slightly but the dust seems to not stand out much anyway.

You will be shocked how clean everything stays after the switch to ceramic pads. I was.
