Rough ride

I own a 2000 S type and the ride quality has gotten very hard. I have read about the CATS system and have located the module in the trunk. It apears to be connected and there are no warning messages or faults displayed. Does anyone have any ideas?

How could I determine if the shocks are good or bad?
