Default 2007 XK with 22's?

My wife totaled her stype that we had for 8 years and loved. She was going to get an XF but also drove an XK at a used lot. Ended up falling in love with it so I've been looking for an 07 or 08 one for her. I found one I think we're going to buy but the ONLY hold up is that it has 22" Jag rims on it. I don't mind the big rim but there is no room for a tire on there so it basically looks like there is some rubber covering the rim. What do you all think my chances of finding someone to trade either 19 or 20s for the 22s? Or selling the 22s and just buying the others.

Also, is there much of a ride difference between the 19 and 20s? She doesn't care about which one, just which one rides better.

Thanks in advance!

I don't believe Jaguar has any 22" rims, so they must be aftermarket. I have a 2010 XKR with 20"rims and the ride is very firm but not jarring. The 19" rims will give you a more comfortable ride as you have a bigger "air cushion" to ride upon. I also have a 2002 XKR on 18" rims and while there is no comparison to the superiority of the handling and suspension of the newer model, for around town cruising and freeway driving, the ride on the smaller rims is certainly more compliant and much, much quieter than the extremely low profile tires. If it's primarily for your wife, I'd go with the 19" rims.

tberg, I think you're correct. I just realized I think they just put some of the Jag circle emblems in the middle of the rims.

Now I just have to figure out if the cost of buying the car and switching the rims is worth it.

If the 22" rims are in nice condition, you could probably sell them for as much as it would cost to buy the 19" set.

Good luck. And welcome to the "club" if you end up buying an XK.

Any pics of the car with the 22's. 19" look small IMO, if you decide, 20" are the way to go. I find my 07 comfortable on these, all depends on tyre pressures how your ride is.

It's hard to see because the rims are black as well. Most of what you see is rims with not much tire. I don't like it but it's a great deal for a very low miles car.

Quoting you "It's hard to see because the rims are black as well", i personally hate black rims on any car, one of any cars nicest features is the wheels. On some cars you don't even notice them when they're black, those 22's don't look that big, but they are hard to see in black and even harder to see when the car is black too. Everyone to their own.

Powerhouse, I agree but it's what's on the car. This car has sub 35k miles on it so that's what I care more about. Rims are replaceable, I can't get the miles back.

The ride I have with my 20"s is great, more refined than I thought it would be.
BUT, I just had two of the four Nevis wheels straightened. Cost me $200.
The County here, in their infinite wisdom, decided it was OK to let the road repair crews put down over four dozen 1-1/2" thick steel plates all over the roads with zero warning signs.
So anyway, even though the Nevis wheels are fairly soft when it comes to wheels, knock the tire sidewall down another 1" and I'd foresee some bent wheel problems, or at least the greater possibility for them.

Good luck if you decide to buy, make sure you have a good warranty and find out all details on the air con drainage tube, has there been any trouble from it . This is an expensive fix if it gives trouble. Other than minor electrical gremlins these are brilliant cars.

The test drives I've done with 20s didn't seem bad but I normally drive a Range Rover so everything about it is different. I just wonder how much this swap from 22s to 20s is going to cost me. I called the dealership to see what kind of rims they were but all they could tell me is they're 22s 3piece and it says forged edition. I'll have to be honest, I've never gotten into rims much so I know nothing about them. Guess I'm about to learn.

My XKR Speed Pack has 20 inch Kasugas. It makes it a firm ride but not unpleasantly so - I always drive in Dynamic Mode which stiffens the suspension anyway.

I'd buy the car with the 22" wheels, and change them for 20". I also don't like black wheels but that's just a personal preference, the same as my liking for a light coloured interior. I like the contrasts in colour which I think enhance the styling - no doubt others disagree but each to his own

If it is truly going to be your Wife's car... the best ride will be with 19".

Perhaps, there's the answer.

Best regards,

Powerhouse, is there a way to check the drainage tube? I've done all of the mechanical work on my past Jag and my two Rovers so 90% of the time I take care of things myself. I'm sure my wife won't want me to but I'm looking forward to getting under the hood on one of these.

Not really except there should be a small pool of water under the car when it is working properly. Ask the dealer about it and would it be covered under warranty if it ever stopped working. The tube is located above the cars transmission and is a small duck bill tube. You can't see it and it is virtually impossible to get at, although some members have, but it is a lot of hassle. If it does give problems it causes water to leak into the footwell and possible parts damage. There is plenty of posts on this issue on the forum, it will give you a good idea.

I still haven't pulled the trigger on a car yet but the one with 22s is still available. Can anyone tell me if these rims would fit an 07xk?

Generally, I do not believe in going above 19" on any sports car. Large wheels are consumer driven by appearance; nothing to do with enhanced performance.

It says those are off a 2015 XJ. The offsets are probably not the same as an '07 XK. The 5.0 XKRs have different offsets to the standard 5.0 XK, and any 4.2 XK/XKR, because they have the electronic diff, which pushes the hubs out further. So even in one 'family' there are compatibility issues. I have no idea what the offsets for an XJ are, probably different again.

But yeah: if the car is otherwise right, changing the wheels is not a big deal, and someone with a 'dubs' obsession will take the 22s of your hands. Hell, you may even make a profit.
