Default S Type - '05 vs '07, any significant differences?

Any major improvements from 2005 to 2007 with respect to reliability or other?

Everything else being equal, would you pay an extra $4,000 for an "07 with 20k miles, or save the $4k and go with an 05 with 50k miles?

Seriously, the cars are otherwise nearly identical with respect to condition, wear, and options.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum skewzme,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to S-Type forum. Members here with these models will be able to help.

I'd get the '05 and pocket the 4K.

Thanks Norri.
I take it that means there is no major upgrades or changes between these two years?

Agreed. I have never regretted buying my '05 STR instead of a later model.

Take the $4000, put $2000 in the bank, use the rest to replace the coolant hoses, DCCV and battery if the originals are still in the car. Check for best prices, e.g. Jaguar's price for a DCCV is over $350, JaguarClimateControl.com sells them for $150.

Default Jag Forum: direct and to the point. Get used to it or move on.

You asked for some "experienced advice" so here it is...
We have lots of members on this forum from all over the world. They have different communication styles. JagV8 is direct and to the point. I like that about him. He basically told you that the answer to your question was in your question. Save the $4000. He was not a smart *** about it and did not deserve the smart *** response you gave him.

JagV8 is not only one of the senior members of this forum, he is also one of the MOST RESPECTED and MOST KNOWLEDGEABLE members with regard to the S-Type engineering, particularly the R model. So before you start flaming other forum members and telling them to "go away" I'd suggest you step back and take a deep breath and realize that your smart ***, aggressive tough guy comments may alienate the very person or persons you could have gotten help from when your shiny new Jag finally goes belly up.

If you don't like direct and to the point, I'd suggest you find another Jag Forum.

In answer to your original question, I'd suggest you buy the older car, then take the $4000 savings and spend it on etiquette classes.

My apologies for offending anyone. But that was anything but direct and to the point. My initial reaction was someone being mean spirited and smart with the "read your own post" reply.
I was only seeking some input on any improvement, or lack thereof , between the two model years and whether the extra cost was warranted. In hindsight, perhaps you are right and I over reacted .
Thanks

The OP's first post was not a hostile question, and did not contain an embedded answer. When I saw the reply "Read your own post" I did feel a flush of annoyance on behalf of the new member.

Nevertheless, the OP decided then and there to fight fire with fire, and thus guaranteed this unpleasant exchange.

Etiquette seems in short supply all round.

Any thing from 2003 and up is considered equally reliable. Pre-2003 needs a few mods to achieve the level of the newer cars.

I'm on the fence as to whether a 2 year new car with 30K less miles is worth $4k more.

Flip a coin?

2003 and up huh? That's helpful.
Thanks again to all that responded, and I look forward to any additional insights as I am new to Jaguars.

The other members have provided you with sound advice on choosing an S-Type based on MY. In my experience, it comes down to the individual vehicle and the care or service history of the previous owner(s) rather than the build year. It may be possible to find an older vehicle with a superior maintenance record for a lower price even if the kilometres/miles are higher. It may even come down to colour preferences for either the exterior or interior.

I suggest you drive several vehicles of varying MYs and determine the one you like best based on overall appearance, handling and performance as well as the prior service history.

Actually, it DOES come down to the build year in many circumstances. For example, I bought a 2006 Pontiac Solstice. Found out after the fact there were several design flaws in that year that were fixed after 2007. That's the kind of thing I was wondering on the S Type. I also thought Ford's purchase of the brand might come into play with these model years.
I appreciate all the common sense advice, but maybe I asked the wrong question to begin with. I was seeking insight on any specific changes, mods, or known issues between these years.
I guess the answer is, there really wasn't any, or at least none that are known by the responders to my post, and that helps me.
Thanks guys.
