Default S-Type 2003 transmission issues

2003 S-Type transmission hunts between top gear and the next lower one at between 40 to 55 mph, as indicating on the tach. Got a TCM recall/reflash 6/3/2005 at 30,525 miles for "harsh shifting" problem.
Transmission set a code on 9/10/2007, at 60,802 miles. Jaguar Dealer said it needs a new transmission! At 60,000 miles? And about $6000? You might imagine what my Wife had to say about a $50,000 car needing a new transmission at 60,000 miles!

It now has 105,000 miles on it with that "defective" transmission. That is 45,000 miles on a transmission that just "had" to be replaced. No further codes have ever been set.

As for the "hunting", if I put the gearshift in drive 5, not just drive, the hunting disappears. Any thoughts?

Jerry

You could replace it but if you can live with it......
