Lightbulb S-Type 2004 hard brake pedal on emergency braking

Dear all,
I have a s-type 2004 that has a problem when you brake hard the pedal also goes hard.

When driving normaly the brakes are great, i have done the standard test with engine off foot on the bake, start the engine and the brake pedal goes down. It had its MOT last week and the brakes passed with flying colours.

An example, is when you go to pull away at say a roundabout you miss judge the distance of a car and have to brake hard the brake pedal goes very hard (so only going at slow speed), All other time works great

Any ideas????????

Mine is exactly the same - I think it may be to do with low engine speed = low assistance ?
It is a bit worrying sometimes

sounds a little like normal brake system operation to me but...

If you try to emergency brake from a speed of say, 40mph, and engage your brake pedal with reasonable emergency force, are you able to engage the ABS (ANTI LOCK BRAKES)? You should be able to feel the ABS pulse through the brake pedal.

If your brakes are capable of triggering the ABS system (preventing lock up) with a reasonable amount of force on the brake pedal, i would say your brake system is likely okay.

Thank you for your replies, Braking at a higher speed say 50mph+ I cannot feel the the ABS pulse and the brake pedal is still quiet hard, but the car does come to a stop without locking its wheels. Not sure if that is because i cannot brake hard enough to lock them or because the ABS is working.

Kind regards Dave
