Default S-type bonnet cable

Hello all, i am new to this so please understand if i am not doing things correctly. I own a s-type v8 4lt auto 2001, recently my car was dented by a hit and run incident, damage to passenger side front wing and bumper. While i was inspecting car for damage i went to pull bonnet release cable and it simply came clean out in my hand, i did not pull the lever in any way untoward. i was left with cable in my hand which had clearly snapped, cannot open bonnet and insurance company say that the cable snapping was not caused by the impact as they have never heard of such an instance, cable worked fine before the dented wing and now its snapped after the incident . Can anyone advise on my situation as 2 weeks now since incident and still no bonnet opening or repairs and insurance company are not accepting what i said happened, Many thanks

Search may get you help but expect it to be very hard to fix unless it broke in a helpful manner and you're good mechanically. Sorry but there it is.

I think it may be a tough one, have you tried removing the undertray and getting underneath to see if you can access the catches?

What part of Fife do you hail from?

On my 2000 the hood has 2 latches and they are located between the lights and the grill. Depending on the grill but you can see the edge of the latch from the grill. It seems that the latch could be opened from the grill with a long and slightly bent rod but I would be cautious in doing that, the radiator is directly behind it.

Thanks guys for your help, I will carry on till i get it open. But my main question is this, the insurance company say that the hit and run incident could not cause cable to snap .is that the case ?

It's hard to say, do you have any pictures?
I suppose the cable is on the right, drivers side of the car?

I'm from Leslie originally, small world.

Push down on the hood at the same time you attempt to unlatch the drivers side.

I was thinking pictures of the damage and also of the cable once you get to it.

Will get the pics bud. the cable has come clean out of the housing and by measuring the lenght it looks like it has snapped around the catch at drivers side. thats the one that has the protective cover on it. as soon as i can i will get pics. an assessor is coming out in the morning to determine if the cable could be snapped due to the impact, as the insurance company say that it is not possible. thanks bud
