newish car and has all the phone system built in but alas no phone, does anyone know the phone to go with this system as would look to fit and have operational even if older type

Probably doesn't have as much in as you think so will cost plenty. Don't expect bluetooth.

 

On ours there is a button on the steering wheel with the icon of a phone. All it does is mute the stereo. Perhaps the OP is talking about this??

 

FORGET IT, THOSE THINGS(WHOLE SYSTEM) WAS A BIG P.O.S. WHEN NEW. WE ALWAYS HAD ISSUES WITH CHARGING. THE CONNECTOR FOR THE PHONE CRADLE USUALLY GETS MESSED UP AND WONT CHARGE THE PHONE. iM SURE YOUDE HAVE FUN REPLACING A CRADLE TOO IF YOU CAN FIND ONE ANYMORE
