Default The S-Type Coupe that never was. Would you get one?

So I'm stuck in the snow and "working" from home.. BUT since everything is shut down there isn't all that much for an IT director to do, besides surf the web.

In my surfing I came across this 2001 R-Type Coupe Concept

Basically, STR drivetrain, in a coupe body... Obvious resemblance to the S-Type.

Would you get one / do you think this would have been a success for Jag?

Take Care,

George

Supposedly the chassis was straight Ford thunderbird with the STR drivetrain, and a fused roof. A convertible could have also been easily made using the T-bird's roof, including removable hardtop.

Such a shame they didn't go for it...

This may hit yas as wierd, but...I recently dreamt of this car. There are coachworks that'll either lengthen or shorten your ride. I'll bet yas it will take 10+ grand to shorten her up to look similar to that sexy bitch.

The car is crying for some side vents, but not bad. Like my STR more.

You're probably better off getting someone to graft an S-Type front clip onto a modern ford thunderbird... But then your still stuck with the 4.0... hrrm.

The jag wheels will bolt right up though

Looks very nice to me George. But they've moved on in a different direction now. Only the XK shows some lineage. I think this prettier than than that car. I like the bright work around the window. It's a nice accent. Imagine this today with 510 hp and all the latest improvements from the the XJ including an uprated interior. Bentley might have had a much lower priced competitor.

It is indeed gorgeous. But no, I would not have purchased one. These days, it's all about practicality in our garage. Each vehicle has multiple jobs they are expected to do, and I just don't have room for a car that doesn't possess four doors....

I keep forgetting all you guys have wives and children and all that other stuff LOL... I hear you on it's impracticality, but if they had done a soft top / hardtop version I'd own it instead of my 500SL.

I'd buy one in a New York Minute if one was available. Oh well, maybe in a few years an XF coupe will be available.

How about we weld your rear doors shut and mold the seams into the body? That way you could say you had the first S-Type coupe

As an added benefit we could take out the rear seats,, door panels, window regulators etc. for weight savings, and put in a 4pt roll cage back there, and it would give you anchor points for 5pt harnesses.

Sound like a plan?

That is bada$$.
I personally think our STR's would look even better with about 6-8" stretch in the front end to give it a long low profile.

I know the XF is an overall more modern and frankly better car, but to me, it just doesn't have the personality or say Jaguar like the S-Type does IMHO. I look at the new jags and the styling is like meh... its ok.

I would have bought one in a heartbeat. The British emblem on the sides would have to go along with the chrome trim around the winders.
This S-Type is the first 4 door car I ever owned, sure would like to go back to 2 doors.
