Hello I am about to repair both headlights
have just received the adjuster kit
I have read to use a heat gun to soften the silicon sealant

Is there a better way than heat gun

Also is there better bulbs than halogen bulbs
I have tried led but failed wof

Heat Gun is fine - here my DIY guide:

Also read my comment under the actual DIY guide, dated 12 Oct. 2022 regarding LED bulbs, which I fitted - light is brighter than before. You need to find the right LED bulbs.

Hi Darrol,

see my link above: I used Turtle Wax - Headlight lens restorer and as my lenses were really dull I started with 2000 grid sandpaper, as I wrote there.

The LED bulbs I used:
I bought them on Aliexpress and I am fairly sure, it was those ones:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005...56721802EnIKDk
I selected H7 and 6000K (that is the colour temperature: 6000 Kelvin). While 3000K looks more cosy, the thing you are aiming for in headlights is brightness, not cosyness, hence the 6000K. As you can see thay are also offering 12000K bulbs, but that light-colour is seriously ugly, plus illegal, if I am not mistaken, and if I am mistaken, they should be legal, as they are badly blinding other drivers.

PS: I just remembered that you should better be cautious with my recommendation of the bulbs above. Yes, I am pretty sure that I put those bulbs into my S-Type, but the thing is, I cannot be certain how good the light output is... You see: I got two S-Type. I bought the second one, because the first one was "too good" (seriously) to drive - it lives in the garage. So I bought and fixed up a second one, identical. It is registered. But it kind of is also too good and currently we are driving all the time the X-Type, and the second S-Type is packed away and I cannot remember for sure how bright the lights are. I will try to find the time soon to check...

Also note that a standard incandescent H7 bulb is rated 55W. The LED bulbs above are rated 40W, which means that they can be used for the car. I am just mentioning this, because there are also H7 LED bulbs on the market with 100W each. Well, they might be a bit brighter, but not for very long, as they will melt and destroy your headlights...

I prefer to bake them in the oven. Then all the glue is ready to come apart.
