I have never considered any sort of preventive maintenance a waste of time. The older the car gets the more needs done. I also have two classic British Sports Cars. Upgrades and maintenance have made them very reliable. I know fellas, in our club, that just wait till stuff breaks to fix it. They are the ones that end up on a rollback and then are afraid to drive anywhere. Just my 2 cents.

Hi Mick.
Unfortunately, no. The "glass" is actually plastic anyway and they are designed for each side only. Besides, the "glass" is sealed into the body of the headlight assembly and is very difficult to separate. I know because I have tried.

Mr Tony is correct. The lens is not a serviceable part. You will need to purchase the headlamp assembly for the market you have the car in. I'd say with the exchange rate the way it is, look to the US for lhd headlamps. I'm sure there are vendors that will ship internationally if those are what you need. If not, I can help arrange shipping. Might as well take advantage of a weakened dollar...We can't .

10 minutes in the oven @170* and they seperate really easy(compared to not heating) as it softens the urethane. to reassemble you just push back together till the plastic lense clips snap back down on the housing, no heat required. oh and take the rubber off the lense first

hahahaah Brutal... i guess you got a point.. my bad... actually my Rim comes with the car (which is chrome) and had winter tires on them. then one on the back passenger wheel somehow bent.. and i couldn't get balance properly. and to straighten it cost few hundred (not sure if that reasonable).
I currently had barcelonas installed on the STR. and the chorme wheels with the winter tires stored in the garage. (just incase houston got freezing this coming winter.

Unhappy broken headlghts on S Type

Both my headlights are broken, i have purchased a used replacement, only to find that is broken as well.
I decided to dismantle the headlight to perform some kind of fix, this involves removing the plastic lens from the housing, by carefully prising the two apart, while cutting through the mastic seal bonding the to parts together.
When the light is dismantled all is revealed, the reflector is joined to the rear housing by 3 plastic ***** on the end of plastic spigots,at different points about the reflector. i suspect that with time, heat, and possible ultra violet light, the plastic spigots become very fragile.
I have tried repairing the plastic, but with no success, it only breaks again in a different place.
I then decided to make new spigots and ***** (8m/m Dia) from various bits and bobs found in my garage, 3m/m threaded rod to give me some adjustment, allso offcuts of plastic to make replacement plastic mountings.
When all the new mountings have been fitted the case and lens can be joined with black silicon rubber
All this takes an age to do, and quite frankly isn't worth the effort! neither is buying a s/h one
Hopefully you are all better informed now!
Regards
JK
