Cool s type over heating problem

hi there
first off just like to thank anyone that can help with this problem .
few weeks ago i drove my car for about one hr ...got into a town and steam started to come out of the radiator cap ...left it for a bit topped up water ...ran for a bit then the warning light came up again .coolant low ...
took to a garage to ask to replace the thermostat ...this was done ...watched the water level for 2 days before hols ...on the way to the airport ...gauge went right up to red warning came on and loss of power...
pulled over checked cap but this flew off with the pressure ...hence scolded arm lol. on return from hols ran car without cap for a bit topped up water seemed ok all the way home ...but still calling for water few days later ...any ideas ...air block or computer reset

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to S-Type forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

I'd check for a head gasket fault next, if they used the right 'stat and fitted it properly.

have checked to see if the head gaskets gone but thats fine ...have used the car for short runs waters holding to the level thats listed in the book ..im thinking that the garage didnt remove all the air out of the system as when i had it back from them they didnt even tighten up the jubaly clips holding the air box on ...rush job i think with garage people who must have been on the cash in hand system ...
