Ok I know your all thinking Ohh noo another thread about headers..well I've read the few threads on here about the possibility of ls headers fitting the STR yet are no longer for sale I've also contacted the company that had produced them and they no longer even have the diagrams for them so that's a dead end, I also seen the thread BIP has headers for xkr I believe and are going for $2600+/- that's a lot of cash for a average Joe just for a single bolt on.. I'm by no means talking bad on there company but I just think they could be done for a more reasonable price. So I've talked to a close friend of mine who is a mech. engineer and he is going to cut a few sets of flanges to fit the 4.2 and I have a shop that will be fabbing a set of long tubes to fit. I'm hoping to have this done within the next month and a half. My question is once these are complete and I can get some dyno numbers who would be interested in having a set made? The price is obviously not set yet but will be under 2k

 

I believe BIP is still putting together a whole set of performance improvements including the installation of a Whipple SuperCharger. They stated when the work is done, they'd offer a group discount if several people were interested. I am interested and awaiting the final in numbers (HP gains) along with $$$$$'s as are others.

 

Thanks licifer. I'd be interested in a set of long tube headers. BIP is offering a $300 discount on their $2600 headers in a forum group buy. I believe a decent set of standard steel long tube headers should cost no more than $700 and $1000 for stainless steel.

 

The initial quote from my shop is $2300 fabbed coated and installed,it could fluxuate a little. Bit I'm going to have the shop tack up another matching set to use as a diagram so I can have more made at a muchhh lower price hopefully around 500-700 without coating

 

Maybe a set of mass produced, popular platform headers will go for $700-1000, but that simply can't apply to custom-made pieces for the STR.

Many exhaust/hot rod/fabrication style shops can build you a custom set of headers like the one's BIP offers. A custom set will set you back $1,600+ easy from a quality builder. BIP's are pricey, but they're hardly out of this world given the application.

I agree that the initial set of custom headers can cost over $2000, but are no longer "Custom" when reproduced. A set of "Plain Jane" steel long tube template headers should fetch between $500-700 whilst stainless steel approx. $300 more.

 

Eh, still a big difference between a set of $700 headers summit sells 100,000 units of a year of, to a shop rigging up a jig and banging out 10 units at once. Yes the lower cost option would be great, but for the time being, this is already a good prospect.

 

Bfs,you are correct the initial cost will be higher due to having to actually fit and fab them to the car. Once they have the headers properly designed and fabbed the price to duplicate the headers is nearly half the price. I just need to know how many people would actually be interested so I can find out a est. Price from the shop.

Gt42r you are right mass produced headers for from places like summit are obviously much cheaper than a custom made. But once a header or other part has been designed it is much easier and cheaper to replicate. The things that will bring the price up is the type of material used to make them and the type of coatings on them

 

Has anyone thought of contacting...Hooker/Holley....Hedman...Sanderson et al?
I worked at Hooker Headers when they were in Ontario Calif. However, I was in the job shop manufacturing division and not the auto div. That was many years ago, but I still remember watching how they were made. Not all that difficult once the prototype is made. Headers should not cost more than $1,000 for a good set even low volume.

 

I've actually contacted kooks, and hooker and neither of them have any real interest in making them since theres not really a demand for them. I also tried steel works but couldn't get a straight forward answer from them. Haven't tried hedman yet or mac so if anyone would want to contact them its worth a shot but my guess is they won't do it. Low demand= low sales= zero to no profit. The only thing I dont like about the jags is there's very few companies willing to make parts for them.

 

licifer, not wanting to blatantly speak for all... I bet more than a few of us here would go for a set of $500+ long tube headers. Long tubes are worth an estimated 25+ chp. Personally, I don't care if they're steel versus stainless steel. Count me in if your man can get it done within $500+. Pay attention to a proper hook-up of the EGR tube to the passenger side header.

 

Most likely they will be standard steel for price reasons, but there's really no heat difference and if coated properly they don't rust. My goal is to possibly have them produce 10 sets of them. They haven't giving a solid price yet but from the sounds of it they won't be more than 700 a pair as long as there master fab. Can properly bend the pipes instead of having to cut and piece them together. There shop also now has a powder coat booth so they will be coated.
Also thanks for the heads up on the egr tube ill defenently bring that up with the shop when I can finally get it to there shop.
The car should be back from the body shop in about a week, having the bumpers repainted and the oe wheels painted graphite with new bfg tires.
Otherwise the headers would be done sooner

Bad news got my car back yesterday and on the way home was rear ended and smashed into the car in front of me. The insurance co. Is having it looked at but I'm thinking its done

BTW thank you for taking the initiative to do this for our cars. I'm in and yes under $1000 all day long. Even better if it is not more than $800 shipped!

Well geico called today and I guess there's $6500 worth of damage so there deeming it totalled... But I get to keep the car so I may still beable to help with the headers I just need to talk to the shop about it

i could do with some headers, and i may have most of the parts that you will need for the stype,
but not much good as i am in the uk,
btw,will powercoat be any good for the headers,
from how it is put on when the pipes get hot it will just burn and come off,
