The saga continues with my new-to-me '05 S-type - A/C blowing HOT air
Well my HG scare has passed, I think, because after the first day owning the car I've had no more indications of white smoke from the exhaust. However today was the first warm day for me to try out the A/C and...hot air on the driver side, and warm air on the passenger side.
Browsing through some threads here it sounds like this is a pretty common issue with the '03-08 S-types. It seems that the most common cause is the heater valve, which I can purchase for about $200, but is there a definitive self-test I can do to be sure this is the actual cause. Also, assuming that I have the part, is this a difficult self-fix?
Thanks

Stop.
Check for the ford Jaguar cross referenced parts thread. You can use a ford / motorcraft branded dccv. Cost is around 90-95 bucks if I remember correctly off of amazon.
If it's blowing hot from one side I can almost bet its the valve.
Take care,
George

Don't worry this is the exact same one you will get if you order from jaguar it's made by Bosch.

Thanks folks,
I was going to ask if this is the correct part: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...gs+Best+Seller
but based on the comment above it sounds like it is. achysklic, did you find that it's a simple replacement? I know there are instructions floating around here, but I may end up just getting an indy mechanic to do it if there's much complexity or chance for causing other damages....
Also, is there anything else I should go ahead and replace while I'm already under the hood?
Thx again,
Jason

Not hard to replace...usually when it goes bad it causes your climate control unit in your dash to go bad...if yours turns out to be bad you can either solder the burnt areas or have someone do it for you. I happen to have a extra one that came out of my 2005 if you need it.

In that case I'll do it myself. I called a couple indy repair shops here in Atlanta & both were quoting me about 3hrs labor, or ~$300. Seems a bit steep to me if it's that simple.
Jason,
I did this repair myself last year when I acquired the princess.
Simple straight forward take a while but is easy to do. I used the Ford Dccv purchased from Amazon for $88.00. When the DCCV malfunctioned it blew a circuit in the Climate control system. I sent the unit to CA to Jeff Lee at jaguarclimatecontrol@gmail.com, He repaired the unit for about $250 and put a fault circuit in it to keep it from burning out if the DCCV failed again. All in all it cost me less than $400 to repair it my self. The dealer here in Atlanta Quoted $1700.
If you are at all mechanically inclined Do it your self.
Good luck

absolutely before you do anything check the fuse in the engine box on the left side FIRST. I believe it is fuse RLY 8 and it controls the ac compresser. I had the exact problem..and others have as well and it was a blown fuse, simnple as that..you can test it by pulling it, and then putting any of the same fuses in its place(i used the one for the fog lights)....worth a try and the fuse is a few bucks at the dealer
Gee George....I would have sent mine to you had I known LOL.
Steffan
Thanks all for the advice, this place is great. fergs03r, I tried the fuse swap after seeing your post but unfortunately it didn't help in my case...I do appreciate the suggestion though! George, I very well might take you up on that offer if it comes to that after the valve replacement! In any case the new valve is going in by Monday, so I should have the issue either fixed or narrowed down by then.
Other than this issue, I absolutely love the car...never experienced such effortless acceleration from any speed to any speed before
Granted, the closest thing I've had to this was an '08 Maxima which was pretty quick in it's own right, but the Jag does it with such grace. As my wife said, the car really is like a cat.

He always does!!!!
Congrats and enjoy her......
Hello,
A few questions:
1. If the control module needs work, does anyone have the instructions on removing it from the car?
2. Is the control module providing a signal, ground or voltage to the solenoid valve?
3. A diode is mentioned for protection when doing the control module work. does anyone have the instructions on which way it face? What is the type and number of diode (ie. IN4001)?
4. Considering the control module may also be defective, would it be feasible to verify or repair the control module first before installing the new DCCV?
Thanks for any and all advice.

If you have the non navi system I have a good control mod. I can send it to you if it fixes your problem just pay or trade me whatever you think it is worth.
