It should. It is caused by a break in the headlamp. Just call the dealer.

The thing seems to be to make sure the dealer makes the case for you that the failure is something other than fair wear and tear. That should be a given for this but they do need to make the case, as I understand it.

Or maybe that's for a different kind of warranty? (I don't have any.)

Brutal, who actual works at a Jag dealership, says they will be covered.
I now feel loaded with ammo and ready to do battle ...

Thanks to everyone for all the input.

My only words of advise is, if it turns into battle, find another dealer to do business with. One of the great things about the Select Edition is the "no claim" process. Everything is pretty much covered.. The only gray area is the "rubber" part of the coverage. Beyond it not covering rubber weather strip, it also does not cover any rubber suspension components and any rubber lines and hoses. You can get some lines covered if it is a combined metal and rubber line and the dealer determines that the metal component failed and not the rubber. Oh, BTW, internal rubber components are covered, IE gaskets..
My dealer has been nothing but exceptional to deal with. My only real gripe is that they don't have their own body shop and the shop they contract sucks. One example is my climate control display started flashing. So, I stopped by on my way to work to show them since I knew it would probably stop and not repeat for the dealer.. The service adviser looked at it, went and talked to a tech, and scheduled me to have the whole control panel replaced. Simple.. He told me the tech said the flashing was a sign of pending failure. So, given the common issue with the headlamps it should be a simple appointment.

All the dealers within a reasonable distance of my location are owned by the same entity so fingers crossed. The only reason I got a bit nervous is that the dealer who initially missed the fault in the PPI would not commit to it being a covered item. I found that odd.

Then there's this thread from a couple of years ago. Look at #6

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...select+edition

So it appears I may have a battle on my hands after all.

FWIW, I just picked up my STR after having both headlight assemblies replaced due to this problem. It WAS covered under my Select Edition warranty.

I watched the Service Mgr look it up in his Select Edition Coverage manual and he showed me where it said the headlight assemblies WERE covered in the list.

Hopefully, it will be as easy of a process as it was for me...

Thanks for the reply.
Did they charge you for anything else related to the headlamps like alignment?

Nope. Everything was covered.

Of course, they did try get me to flush my radiator ($149( and flush my transmission fluid ($299) while they had me there... he he he

Since I have put less than $2k on it since I purchased it as a Select car, I told them I will assume it had already been done at the dealer I bought it from. Maybe another day...

I hope jag can reclaim from the maker, but that's a matter for them.

I have 11 months left on my warranty.

So when I asked about if the replacements were improved I got a no.

When I'm out of warranty if this happens (apparently the odds are it will) I guess I'll have to look at the "drill the hole and add a screw" fix.

I'm not certain if that fix provides the full functionality of the original piece and if it would be accepted by all state inspection services here in the USA?

But yes, at this point I'm very relieved.

the 'screw fix' doesn't do anything to alter the functionality of the headlamp, it still allows auto-leveling as well. I doubt it would fail ANY state inspection due to this repair.

So why doesn't Jag just do this? It would save a bunch of money it they came out with field service modification. Someone in one of the threads did mention they had a problem with a state inspection station. Perhaps the motor on theirs was also broken? That they would notice.

Picked the car up. The parts will be in next week. Yes it's covered but the parts alone, one side are $1,300. Or about 5% the value of the car ...

Gulp!

That's why mine is probably gone by June 21, 2011... Ha Ha, I don't remember the actual date I picked up my car but I certainly remember the date the Select warranty expires......

I can't say I like that attitude.

This is just plain silly if they break this easily and they haven't addressed the problem. My car is 5 years old but I don't think that's a factor. I think these headlamps just suck. I seem to remember seeing a thread, perhaps by BRUTAL (how apropos) that he disassembles these and fixes them properly? Or am I wrong. So it's something like that or a class action lawsuit.
