Should I buy this Jaguar?
I am an avid enthusiast of nice cars. I've owned several hundred cars but have never owned a Jag. I have intentionally avoided any Jaguar that I've seen advertised because of the stereotype and reputation it seems Jaguar has always had.
I found a 2006 S-type 4.2 in IMMACULATE condition with 140,000 miles. It's black and is in amazing condition. I'm attracted to the car because it looks very luxurious and exceptionally clean. I can appreciate clean. It's also mechanically sound and drives like new. I can get the car for ONLY $3,500!!!!!
I'm scared to death of buying a Jag in general because I want to sell it eventually and scared that any mechanical problem will be a costly nightmare or that nobody will want to buy it when I do re-sell it.
My question is $3500 a good price for this and are they reliable?

Personally I wouldn't buy a car without any service history unless I could buy it for chips money.
I looked at a 2000 4 litre S-type in lovely condition but with very little history.
It was £1000 which is $1248 in US dollars.
After seeing and driving it as gauge for what I would buy, I wouldn't touch that car.
When they go wrong they can be VERY costly.
Main dealer prices for servicing and repairs are not an option.
So unless you have a local independent Jaguar workshop, you will have to DIY. The cars are great but can be an absolute money pit.
The car sales pages in the UK have a good selection of very nice S-types under £1000 and under £500. You can afford to take a gamble at those prices.

guess that tells you about resale value and product desirability. without wrenching on these yourself (and enjoying that), pass it up.
Be honest in answering yourself when you ask yourself the obvious question: "Why is a 2006 in (seemingly) immaculate condition offered for $3500?"
I'd be dubious that there is something lurking in it's history.....

Don't buy any high end car at any price, Jag or not.

Thank you all for the response. According to the seller, some other schmuck already bought it. Not sure I entirely believe that somebody bought it, but it's not for sale anymore after talking to him.
