The Jag technical bowling the talk about modifying the AC compressor valve spring configuration says it only to the V6 models. I have the 4.2 L V8 supercharged model.
Whenever I replaced the compressor a couple years ago, I did this thinking that it would give me better cooling. My compressor clutch bearing melted down. I’m wondering if the modification may have contributed to that.
I’m about to replace the compressor again and I’m wondering if I should do the same mod or just leave it the way it is.
what do you think?
Sorry not any help but did want to point out that the V-8's used a slightly larger AC pump. As you know this means the V-6 and V-8 AC compressor do not interchange.
Not sure what the spring modification would do on a V-8?
I vote to NOT do the mod as Jaguar says V-6 only mod.

Interesting discussion. My 2 cents:
If theV8 compressor was indeed of larger capacity (and not just external dimensions), Jaguar may not have been seeing many complaints as compared to V6 models. The accounting department likely would not authorize pre approval for warranty repairs on models not experiencing the condition.
Should you do the mod anyway? Heck if I know. Do you have the replacement yet? Many new units now do not even have the valve, so the decision would have been made for you.

ya I found out the two engines had different compressors the hard way. I initially bought one for the v6 and found the differences when swapping the old for new

the compressor I just got definitely has the plate so itd be possible.
but since I had trouble with the old one w the mod, I wont do it on this one. We shall see how well it cools at idle wo the mod
