A/C Pressures way off
Hello Gentlemen,
The A/C in my '02 has sort of intermittently gone bad (warmer and warmer...But sometimes nice and cold!). I checked the low and high side pressures with a good gauge and here is what I got:
HP: 120psi
LP: 100-102psi
(both readings with system at high, closed to any other attachments, and with the compressor clutch engaged).
I know this is probably a bad compressor, but in an attempt to NOT change the compressor I am asking for any other possible explanation. I have looked all over the forum and found something about the expansion valve and/or an "A/C compressor valve spring" problem. Do either of these things make sense with my symptoms, if so, can I replace them?
Thanks

Those pressures I'm afraid, are classic for Bad valves in the compressor, Whereas, the pressures are about equal HS to LS....The Compressor valve spring may be the culprit. I don't know..But I think that in any case, it warrants a New or Rebuit compressor..
Considering you have to remove the Freon charge, evacuate, and recharge either way, I'm with DPK here. It's time for a new/reman compressor. I did mine and never looked back the AC is ferociously cold now.
11 - 12 years, that's OK service from an AC compressor.
