Default Speaker upgrade suggestions

Have just upgraded my Non-nav non premium head unit with a double din pioneer. Sound is much improved but I am looking for further improvement. I am not going to go to component speakers at this point but looking for plug and play suggestions from recent installs. I bought Rockford Fosgate 1683 punch 6x8" but was surprised that these did not sound as good as stock. So will return these and look for a better option with more base.

Thanks

i put kicker 6x8 cs68 225w 2ways. in the front and
pioneer 6x8 ts-a6813i 350w 3ways in the rear they sound excellent
also have 2 6.5" jbl p660c woofers in the pacil tray and a 12" sub and amp boxed in boot.
all this is running off the stock alpine premium head unit!
even without the subs running it is clearer , louder and and hits a lower note than the premium stock alpine 6x8 ! love it to bits !

i think your rockford punch series 6x8s are way underkill at only 65w rms !

6x8 is typical Ford. I have a pair of the Rockford Fosgates in the rear panels of my F150, and were only slightly better than stock....for a 20 year old truck. 17 year old stock Jaguar ones, with Premium Sound are better...but to be fair, the acoustics in our S-Types is so much better than a truck.

At the time I put those Fosgates in, they were a top pick for their size (4 or 5 years ago). There might be something better out now.

From what I was told the standard speakers in the S-type are the same as the ones fitted to the mass market UK Ford Mondeo between 2000 and 2007.

You probably already know this:
The standard audio uses the amp in the head unit and the speakers have just two wires.
When the 'Premium Sound' amp is fitted into the d2b network the amp in the head unit is disabled and the duel wired plug for the speakers from the amp unit is used.
(It also adds an extra few digits to the volume control scale!)

All the wires are already in the car, so there are already bi-wire speaker wires from the location of the amp in the boot (trunk) to the speakers.
