Default Spring rubbers

So I'm poking around under the front end of my car looking for the AC service port (Who the heck puts it there?!?!), and what do I find, but this:

I am guessing these are not factory original, and I'm guessing there's a third one behind the coilover I can't see.

What's the point of these things, a redneck way to try to firm up the handling?

My car has aftermarket wheels with 225 45 18 tires on it, but I looked under there and if those things provide any lift at all, it's not enough to cause any tire rub issues if I remove them.

And I'm pretty sure whoever stuck them in there isn't as smart as Jaguar's suspension engineers, so I'm gonna pull the things out. I have a lowered T-Bird with Tokiko shocks and springs on all four corners for the days I feel like taking corners entirely too fast.

These blocks are designed to stiffen springs that were either too soft to begin with or have softened up through use.
