Default STR winter wheels/tires

I'm a new STR owner in the Midwest and my car is a daily driver, so I'm planning on a set of snow tires on different wheels. My first thought was something in a 225/45/18, but a guy who sells lots of Bimmers suggested 17s in a 55 or 60, still 225s. He said the higher profile tires would do better in cold/snow. So, will 17s clear the Brembos? Other thoughts/suggestions?

Unsure if 17s will fit, I do know a lot of rims with the correct offset, backspacing do not fit due to the huge caliper...But the red flag goes off in my head...You're looking to spend $1000+ just for winter rims? In my mind, I'd look to get the 19" OEM STR 2008 rims and snows tires for the current 18s...

Ya most 17s won't fit. For 1k, pick up a winter car and save the STR for the nicer days.
