My 05 Stype has the chrome peeling off both (Rt and Lt) inside locking levers but the latch handle just below it is fine. This must be fairly common. Wondering if there's a quick fix and if not has someone attempted to replace these by pulling the inside door panel? If so how difficult is it?

Re: Stype inside door lock latch handle peeling
A few years back Jag made the little chrome caps available to fix that, but they stopped supplying them inexplicably. Now all you can do is replace the interior handle and its cable to the latch.
It's not a big deal getting the door casing off. Remove the plastic escutcheon around the handle, the two screws in the armrest recess, and use a wide flat tool [preferably plastic] to pry the panel off of the door. Don't get spooked, it will sound like you are tearing stuff up as it pops the fasteners loose.

Good luck!

Mines the same - very annoying on a car like this, also it became quite sharp and I had to clean it back. I found some 40 mm wide adhesive backed chrome tape and carefully covered the offending part it has lasted a year so far and looks okay. also its easy to replace if it starts again.

And I thought only mine had this problem! (1999 3.0 S type). I have not seen any threads about this problem on any of the Jaguar forums?

The chrome effect on both front interior door handles started to peel away leaving a very sharp lip. The rears are ok. I wonder if it is due to oils etc on fingers reacting with the plastic?

In the UK a replacement from Jaguar was around £60 each. In the end I managed to get a couple of good ones off ebay and they are a relatively easy to fix (once you get that plastic shroud surrounding the door handle off!!!).

Interestingly my Jaguar dealer is not aware of this being a problem but I guess they would say this?

Add my 03 to the list of the ones doing this, but only on the driver's door....

Hi guys, Have a look at my thread from a while back. It has full instructions and pictures on how to replace your interior lock levers.

Didn't notice mention of one issue that bit me. First time removal of front door panel resulted in breakage of small yellow transition parts between trim panel and snap in clips. You must probe under the trim panel and apply pressure directly to the snap in clips to save the connection parts. Jag does not sell them without the entire panel.
Has anyone found a replacement source? PITA to repair!
