Default Help wanted: Jag s type 2006- battery drain issue

Hello all. I am new to this but i am looking for help with battery draining issue. Yesterday as i was watching the car and working on my other car i noticed that the Jaguar s type 3.0 v6 - the headlights must have gone on and off about 3 times - which i have a feeling is causing the battery to go dead every morning.
If someone has solved this problem please let me know on what the fix is.
Thanks

Solved? It may be the first to do it!

Hope for some useful suggestions.... but why not post a bit about how much you know about electronics troubleshooting in modern highly complex cars. Which is what the S-Type is (very).

If you have a warranty - use it.

Following the age-old troubleshooters principle of "going for the simple things first",
1) Just how old is the battery?
2) Have you hooked a voltmeter across it to check a) voltage at rest, b) voltage when charging/engine running? (A cheap & cheerful digi-meter will do)
3) Have you checked battery terminals for sulphation (a kind of white 'mould') and/or looseness?
Explanation: On this very section of the forum there are tales about what effect a bad battery/areas concerning the battery, can have on any of the microprocessors in this car. If you've checked out what you can, time for a pro. to have a look.
Batt. volts at rest = around 12.6volt
Batt. volts charging = 14.4volt.
Life of a battery, average, around 5 to 10 years, depending on quality.
Leedsman.

Adding to Leedsman's checklist

4) Get a hygrometer and check each cell. A voltmeter won't see a bad/weak cell.

Hi
The battery is brand new and seems like the old battery is fine too and holding charge.
I have discovered the headlights going on and off the other day and thinking that has something to do with my issue. the terminals and the battery is very clean and corrision free.
is there a module or fuse/relay i can maybe replace to stop the headlights from coming on and off as he car sits stationairy?
Thanks again for all feedback.

F.A.O. Jayt2, if there is a bad cell, this will show up on the 12.6volt test, as each cell should produce 2.1volt at rest. To be doubly sure, put load on the battery such as a headlamp bulb (I have one ready with croc. leads for the purpose -- v. cheap!) then the dead/bad cell will be obvious.

Some batteries don't have a liquid electrolyte, (jelly batteries),the hygrometer test to establish specific gravity can't be done here. If the battery is conventional, check the acid level, and top up with soft or de-ionized water. The hygrometer test is generally done if the battery has been upended and acid spilt, and one can't be sure if someone's topped it up with tapwater.
In very cold areas, the specific gravity is higher to reduce the internal resistance of the battery for better cranking during cold starts.
Cheers, Leedsman.
