Default Stype winter tire question

Hello Everyone. I was hoping to get some advice here on the brand/model of tire I should put on my Stype, in order to get the best traction in the snow.
I have done some initial research (where the Michelins look the best so far), but I thought I’d check here to see if there were other options.
Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

Please tell us the year and model of your S-type and we will be able to help you out. (What is your car's stock tire size?)

Personally, up here in NW Montana, I am a studded Blizzak tire kind of guy on my X-types.
- I don't drive my S-types in the winter mainly because I don't want them exposed to salt and mag chloride.

Thanks for your interest Tijoe. The car's an '03 Stype 4.2 asp. with 16" rims.
The car lived in California for 10 years and southern Utah for 5 before I bought it last winter.
The underside is immaculate.
The CV boots, exhaust and rockers are all clean. Very clean.
Not happy about having to drive it this winter, but for the coming year this is the family car so I need it to be reliable and safe in the most wintery of conditions.
Thanks again for your interest.

Since you have the 4.2L on 16" wheels, you likely have P225/55 tires. (Narrower tires are better for snow/ice versus the 235s and STR's with even wider tires. 245s/275s)

I'll assume you are looking for dedicated winter tires, not "all Season" tires. (in New York, Farmers Almanac is predicting one of the worse winters in a long time - NOAA is the opposite.)

First question is Studded or Winter tires. - If you are in an urban area where the roads are plowed often and they use ice melt, then you may not need studs.
If you travel in areas where there are hills and steeper inclines and you see more ice on the roads, then studs will be better.

After you figure out the road conditions, then I'd read reviews on Tire Rack and Discount Tire and other tire sites for different Winter tires available in 225/55/16s.

I am sure others will chime in soon regarding Brands and models that have specifically worked well on your S-type.

Good Luck

Thanks again for your interest in my enquiry Tijoe.
Having read your previous comment I've comed to the concliusion that I can, and would like to, go with studded tires.
I've begun to look at what's available in the 225/55/r16 size, but haven't come up with any clear choice yet.
Would prefer to stay away from the asian manufacturers if possible, so if you have any other suggestions in mind I'd appreciate hearing what they are.
Thanks/ B.
