Has anyone swapped their ignition barrel? I would like to try this rather than the process of cutting and re-coding 2 new keys?

I have a spare S type for parts with a working ignition and two keys and hope it is possible to swap the barrel without the security issues locking the engine from turning over. The car I use has only the one key.

I live about 4 hours from a Jaguar dealer and local locksmiths can't re-code new Jaguar keys. I want to avoid having the car towed to the dealer if the key and barrel swap fails.

If changing the ignition locks over is possible, and re-coding the keys to the good spare ignition barrel is a workable solution, then this becomes a viable option to me. As it will save money and travelling.

Any advice would be appreciated.
