Plug and Play if the Part number is right. You will need to reprogram the key fob. The fob frequency is different on later modules, so try and find a MY 98 module.

Look in the area of the spare tire and find the VCATS labels. It will give you model number for the SLM. It should end and an alphabet letter. if your is a c you can use any one with a higher letter d e f g etc. you can not go down E.G. d to a c or b.

It should not be a problem. Just make sure the numbers on the case match. If the last letter is lower in the alphabet it will be an earlier software version and won't be compatible. You can go up but not down. There should be a part number on the case.

You might try drying yours. Air conditioned space overnight. Reinstall and do a hard reset (a thread, updated by Jim Lombardi, explains how).

If you need a new one, find the right number and right freq (mhz) to match yours and hunt on eBay. I bid down the price and got mine fairly cheap. Then, an option is to send yours off for rebuild and either reinstall it or put it up for auction.

But, as Ross noted, you must reprogram your key Fobs.

The VCATS does NOT need to match for security module replacement. I have a MY 99 running in my MY 02 XJ8 right now. I had to use the key fob from the MY 99 since it is on a different frequency.

Sparknzap if I am reading correctly I should be able to put a SLM from an 2001-2003 in my 2000 XJR so I can use the newer Keyfobs. The Ford replacement Keyfobs that are $15 for a pair work on the 2001-2003 cars.

Default XJ8 (2000) Security Locking Module

I have an XJ8 (2000 [x Reg]) and think the SLM is up the creek. The left brake light stayed on even with the ignition off. We by-passed it by wiring it into the right brake light. Its been okay for a month or so but now the right one is staying on. The centre brake light still works okay. The SLM code is LNG 2600JB. SLMs with this code seem to be few and far between. EuroJag on ebay have 5 but they're £125 each. That about £100 more than others up for sale. A few questions: Can I use an SLM with a different code? If I buy one - is it just plug and play? From the threads it looks like I may have to get the key fob recoded. Where would I get that done? Thanks in advance for any help. Steve

This is what I did and it worked great, my door locks where starting to act up on my 2000 XJR and my Keyfobs where starting to be intermittent. I also tried changing the batteries and cleaning the contacts and the problems grew worse! Second problem I was faced with was the new Jaguar Keyfobs 2000 and older where almost $400 each! The 2001-2003 XJ keyfob can be replaced with a pair of $10 Keyfobs off Ebay.

I bought a security locking module from a 2001-2003 XJ and installed it in my car then I programmed the $10 Ford Keyfobs and it works great.

If your Keyfobs are original it's just a matter of time before you will need to replace them, now is the time to put updated SLM.

2001 jaguar xj keyfob programming maybe someone can post the link for the procedure to program the fobs, very simple using the ignition switch and high beam switch.

I have a 2004 XJ8 Jaguar. Where is my security alarm module located? Thank you.

I believe you're in the wrong sub forum, but if they didn't move it between the 2003 model year (X308) and 2004 (yours), then it's in the trunk to the rear of the battery, underneath the fuse/relay module.

My security lock control module is in the roof of my car on a 2004 XJ8 Jaguar. It wasn't in the trunk. Thanks for you guys.

Does anyone else knows where the security lock module could be? I have a 2003 XJ8 jaguar and mine is not in the boots under the fuse box. I have no idea where it is located on my vehicle. Thank you. Please help.

Correction on that it wasn't in the roof ceiling either. That's what someone has said, but it wasn't there. Sorry for the inconvenience. Stop don't do that. So I still haven't found it yet.

I just looked at mine and the SCLM is definitely under the boot (trunk) fuse/relay module. I had to take the top off that thing to see it.
